Vincent Bitetto Obituary

BITETTO - Commissioner Vincent J. Bitetto of Sanitation District 6, 86, of Franklin Square, NY, passed away peacefully after a short illness surrounded by his family on February 21, 2016. Vincent was a loving husband, father and grand-father and was passionate about serving his community. Having grown up in Maspeth, New York, Vincent Bitetto married his loving wife of 66 years, Gloria. In 1953 they moved to Franklin Square where he joined The Franklin Square East Republican Club and served on the board and was President for two terms. Vincent started his career in banking as a teller and retired as the Executive Vice President of Williamsburgh Savings Bank. He received his B.A. in Business Administration from Adelphi University and taught at the American Institute of Banking at Hofstra University. Upon his retirement from Williamsburgh Savings Bank he became Vice President in the Portfolios and Mortgage department at Lehman Brothers, Inc. on Wall Street. He then began his own business, Access Mortgages, in Floral Park. He was a member and served on the Board of the Hempstead Country Club where he enjoyed many years of golf. At the time of his death he was completing a twelve year term as Commissioner of District 6 Sanitation Department. Vincent is survived by his wife, Gloria, and daughter Susan Rizzo of Charlestown, RI, son Gary Bitetto and wife Marilou of Franklin Square, Jill Mollitor and husband Donald of Franklin Square and seven grandchildren, Jami Longo, Erika Bitetto, Gary Bitetto, Tayler Mollitor, Justin Bitetto, Makenzi Mollitor and the late Andréa Rizzo as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Joseph Hegmann of Wantagh, NY and his many nieces and nephews. Viewing hours will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd 7pm-9:30pm and Wednesday, February 24th from 2pm-4:30pm and 7pm-9:30pm at Barnes-Sorrentino Funeral Home in West Hempstead, NY. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Franklin Square at 10:30am on Thursday, February 24th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Andréa Rizzo Foundation, 10 East Beach Road, Charlestown, RI 02813.
