Wesley Trutt Memoriam

WESLEY TRUTT
May 20, 1943 - January 21, 2006
Wesley Trutt, 62, died Saturday, January 21, 2006 in a place he loved - The Villages, FL. Born in NJ, he first gained prominence as a quarter miler and a fine card player (a skill he learned from and practiced with his father). Those talents and selling shoes helped him thru college, where he fell in love with the certainties of mathematics and the first of two wonderfully beautiful wives. He taught with flair and exacting presentation in Brentwood HS before retiring and moving to warmer climates. He was a superb bridge player (Silver Life Master), the rarest of Americans, an avid reader, a golfer, gardener, cat lover and crossword puzzler. He was born a Jew; married Christians; lived as a pagan. He traveled widely, if not well. And wherever he was he would gather surprisingly diverse people around him to enjoy life with. Mostly he loved to party and think and laugh. Everyone who knew him had a funny story. Those who loved him are still smiling. He is survived by his daughters Vanessa and Emily.

For some reason I thought of him today. I lived next store to Mr. Trutt´s parents in New HYde Park. He once tutored me in Math as I struggled. Today I am an electrical engineer, so I thank you for that. I did not know he passed away. So sorry to hear about this so later in life. He was a kind man who lives his family and a lot of fun. Rest in peace. The world is a lonelier place without you.

Mr. Trutt was one of my very favorite teachers. In his class, he would write these very difficult problems on the board, and if you solved them, you would win a "prize." Prizes included pictures done by various artists. I happened to solve one of his problems correctly, and I picked out a picture by M.C. Escher. From then on I was fascinated by M.C. Escher's work! Mr. Trutt was a cultured, interesting, straight forward man. I loved his class, and looked forward to it. I loved when he tried to keep from cracking a smile when he would tell the class one of his many "life lessons." He had this great "smirk." He will be truly missed!!

Mr. Trutt was my math teacher back in the 1977. At first I thought he was tough, but I was wrong - he was such a caring person. I think of him often.

Mr. Trutt was my math teacher at Brentwood H.S. He will always stand out in my mind because he taught the class with flair. I also attended his extra help class to prep for regents. I failed by one point, he said he even gave me credit for writing my name! That's the best memory of have of him and I often retell that story, especially to my children who struggle in math too. I will remember him fondly. Gianina Dow
