I think I speak for all of the family of William F. Tyree when I say our Grandpa was the most influential, big hearted, and charitable man I have ever met in my life. Reminsicing with the family through the loss of our Grandpa has brought tears of joy and sadness. With 8 children, 27 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 on the way, memories and bonds have been made that I don't think any other family can amount to. The number of stories I can share are endless but growing up and looking up to this man is truly one of my greatest accomplishments. He loved his family and our Granny unconditionally but his love will remain present in all our hearts. He was such a patriotic man who lived such a full and adventurous life; this remarkable life of his inspired many people. I'll miss you Grandpa but I know your with Uncle Tommy, cousin Matt, and every other loved one, holding them tight in a better place. I know you'll be watching over us everyday and I know I the thought of hearing more stories of your life from my dad brings a smile to my face. I love you Grandpa, you truly are my hero. Rest in peace.

The Long Island Volunteer Hall of Fame acknowledges the loss of one of its most treasured inductees, William Tyree, who championed the common good and through steely determination as a volunteer ensured an important legacy of service supporting Madonna Heights and SCO. Mr. Tyree was inducted in 2008 and a bench with inscribed plaque was dedicated in his honor at Bethpage State Park. We have lost a giant in the industry--a man all men should be measured against. My heart is greatly saddened to hear of the loss of Bill. His special sense of humor will always be a childhood memory cherished throughout my lifetime - waking up to the Star Spangled Banner in NH and watching my parents laugh like never before. I know my mom is there, along with the many people whose lives he touched, to lead him through the gates of heaven. Forever peace with all those lost before you. You are already greatly missed here on Earth. Forever in our hearts he will truly stay.
