James Woods Obituary

James Avery "Jimmy" Woods, 20, of Blountstown, Fla. passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 in Gainesville, Fla.

Jimmy lived his life with Cystic Fibrosis. Growing up with a terminal illness, Jimmy was always the bright light when he entered any room. He wanted to spread his light by helping others through his time and support he gave to the Cystic Fibrosis Fund Raisers in the Panama City and state wide events.

God blessed Jimmy with a double lung transplant in August 2009. After a miraculous recovery, Jimmy went out to do activities his health had prevented him from doing in more than 6 years. Jimmy suffered complications from the transplant and passed away gently into the Hands of God.

He was born March 11, 1989 in Panama City and graduated from A. Crawford Mosley High School in 2007 and was a member of Southport First Assembly of God. When his health allowed he was very active with Inner-Action Student Ministries at Southport First Assembly of God.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Jessie Avery, and his paternal great grandparents, James C. and Estelle Cureton.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Gay Reed and husband, James of Chipley, Fla.; father, James A. Woods of Blountstown, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Charles and Ima Jean Woods of Southport, Fla.; a brother, Justin Alexander Woods of Blountstown, Fla.; a sister, Cassandra Jean Woods of Blountstown, Fla.; an aunt, Kira Higginbotham and husband, Bill of Bozier City, LA.

Funeral services will be held, 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at Southport First Assembly of God with the Rev. James Guy, the Rev. Nixon Riley, the Rev. Joe Sellars and the Rev. David Goodman officiating with interment to follow in New Southport Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Blountstown and Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Southerland Family Funeral Home in Panama City, Fla.

No one, unless they have gone thru this will ever understand a broken heart like I have. But even tho I cry, even tho sometimes I know it is difficult to go on, I know you were given to me but for a while. And have comfort knowing I will see you again. I love and miss you so much

Well, Jimmy guess you got a new partner up there. You and Anthony were so much alike I know yall are best buddies and get along great. Anthony's mom is going thru what I went thru (and am still going thru) when you left. Please you and Anthony talk with Jesus to give me and Audrey strength to bear this emptiness in our hearts. Some dad soon I know we will all be together again.

Dear Jimmy, I have not had the pleasure of meeting you. However your face looks so familiar too me, and your smile makes my very soul sing. I know that I will get the honor of meeting you one day. For what you've left behind is an inspiration to all that can see your smile. To my friend I will meet in God's kingdom, thank you and I love you!

Jimmy, it's been a week now since we laid you to rest. I miss you so much and love you even more. My heart is breaking but I continue to keep telling myslef that things are better for you now with no more pain and no more suffering. And now you don't have a body afflicted with CF - now you have a perfect body. I keep telling myself that but it still does not stop the heartbreak of missing you. I love you so much, hope I see you someday real soon

Jimmy, My Baby, My first born... it;s been over 24 hours now since we laid you on your final resting place. I went by and saw you today. Sometimes people like me can be so selfish, wishing you were still here. I always hoped for the best for you and now you have the very best - no more pain, no more suffering, no more shots no more surgeries, no more breathing treatments, no more of the other things that stiffled your life hee on year. How you endured with a smile is beyond me. But now you are happy and free from all of that. My heart breaks waiting for you to text or call me, your "Madre" as you called me. but the text nor the call never come. Someday soon my Chico, we will have a lot of catching up to do. It won't be long - as the Bible says, in a twinkling of an eye... Rest well, play hard, and live like you were never able to do down here.

We all love you and miss you

Today we buried Jimmy, but it was as much a celebration of the life he lived and the Life he has moved onto. As Jimmy's Father I have watched in admiration over the years at how Jimmy Lived Life. Early on Jimmy knew that he would likely die from his illness. Early estimates placed his life expectancy at around 13, but seven years later that day finally came.

Jimmy had made a relationship with Christ and did not worry about his soul, but he worried every day about how to make the most out of the additional day God had granted him. He inspired me with the positive attitude with which he faced the adversities life had tossed his way.

Over the last three days as we visited first with our new friends in Blountstown, then with old friends in Panama City, it was humbling to see all of the lives Jimmy had touched and affected in his short time on earth. I have listened to story after story told of the positive way in which my son met each new day and how that impacted the one telling the story. It is touching to see all of the nice comments scribed upon this site. They are but a few; however, they give you a feeling for the impact. It is a fitting tribute to a bright light now gone from this world. Look up and you might see that bright up in heaven where it now resides.

Son I Love you and I am jealous. I hope that I can do as well with my life at my jouneys end. My heart is broken but my soul is glad that you now run free and laugh loudly with your new glorious body with those that have gone on before. Save me a place and I will be along in a little while when God decides my time here on earth is done as your was done.

You were only able to have Jimmy for 20 short years here on earth; thank the Lord you will have him forever in heaven, with a new and strong body. We are praying for God's grace in great measure for you.

Two worlds combine to be one online, and Jimmy was a vivacious part of both. His humor and warmth shone through his words; his heart was big enough for his online family to literally see through the screens.

Two worlds are sad; two worlds have felt a deep loss; two worlds mourn one who was a joy, a light, and a lover of life.

When Jimmy was a little boy, he went to Just For Kids Daycare. I was one of the teachers who was Blessed to have taken care of Jimmy. He was always so friendly and sweet. I'm keeping all his family in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew this young man only through an online game. I knew he had health issues but he never failed to impress me with his drive, good humor and ability to preform under conditions that would have anyone else screaming for mercy. The rest of us will be hard pressed to live up to the example you set.

my thoughts and prayers are with jimmys family during this difficult time. I was fortunate enough to get to spend time and get to know Jimmy during his time at the hospital. He was such a sweet kind compassionate kid. He was always hopeful for his future and made the best of his days in the hospital. He will always live in my heart and prayers.

Words will never adequately express the pain felt in Jimmy's passing. Though I only knew him through a virtual world I learned enough about him to know how great a loss this is.

His ability to remain positive, upbeat, and optimistic no matter what life threw at him is something I always admired. His strength, determination and perseverance in the face of all odds is something I will always remember.

Undoubtedly the world is a lesser place without him.

My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.

I've known Jimmy through a virtual world for some time now, along with his dad. We used to call him "Arny". I came to know Arny as "the little brother I never had, always wanting to tag along and ask questions". That is how I will always remember him, eager, enthusiastic, and wanting to belong, always wanting to be a part of things going on, regardless of what they were, just to be around people.

His outlook on life was always positive. He never complained about the hand life had dealt him, he just rolled with it and continued on. He never asked for any pity, or for any special allowances, just to be allowed to belong and partake.

I will miss him forever and will try and remember the lessons he was able to teach me in his relatively short life, and as surely as the sun will rise tomorrow, he will be missed by all who really knew him.

We love you Jimmy, we will miss you... Your "big brother, Brit", AKA Tim Martin
