John Yakey

Panama City Beach - John D. Yakey, of Panama City Beach, FL. Passed away on June 22, 2021 at 89 years old.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 4 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-4 pm on Saturday prior to the service. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 2 p.m. EDT in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Benevolence Missions Fund c/o First Baptist Church of Panama City, P.O. Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32402 in memory of John Yakey.

John was born on December 23rd , 1931 in Springfield, MO. to John & Ruth Yakey. John lived in Springfield until 1950 when he enlisted in the Navy. He proudly served the Navy on USS Menelaus. He served at various bases across the US including Pensacola, Fl. It was in Pensacola that he met the love of his life, Dorothy Fore. The two were happily married for 59 years until 2011 when Dorothy went to be with the Lord. John & Dorothy had two daughters, Paula & Debby.

After the Navy, John attended Missouri State College with a BS degree in Accounting. John joined the IRS (Atlanta Division) and worked there for 30 years and ended his career as Large Case Manager. After retirement he owned/operated his own tax business for 30 years, with a total of 60 years in the tax business.

In 1943 John became a Christian, faithfully living his life for the Lord and serving his local church in various roles, such as, Deacon & Sunday School Teacher. John's faith was the center of his life and all he did.

John was a caring, kind and loving man. He loved his family deeply, was generous to all and always had a smile on his face and joy in his heart. He is deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, mother Ruth, father John, and brother Bill. John is survived by daughters, Paula and Debby (Dominic), his three grandchildren Butch (Allison), Heather (Brett), Victoria, and his eight great-grandchildren Isaiah, Anna, Scarlet, Samuel, Isabel, Bailey, Olivia, Georgia.
