Sarah Dye Obituary

After a courageous fight with Lou Gehrig's disease, Sarah Ruth (McGinnis) Dye, 69, of Panama City, surrounded by friends and family, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on January 12th.

Simple words cannot describe how much she was loved and will be missed.

Sarah was born to the late Herbert and Ruth McGinnis, Aug 24, 1943, in Branford, FL. She graduated from Mainland High School, Daytona Beach, FL, in 1961, and married John "Buddy" Dye in 1965. They lived together in Florida, North and South Carolina, and Georgia, before relocating permanently as retirees to Panama City in 2005.

Sarah was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother (My My). She and Buddy raised two sons and Sarah worked as a medical secretary for several years in Durham, NC. She was passionate about her faith in Jesus and travelled on several mission trips to spread the Gospel. She loved quilting and was well known for her beautiful creations, bestowed in love, to many friends and family. Those who knew Sarah remarked on her faith, compassion, and loving spirit. She demonstrated this throughout her life and most recently as a volunteer at the St Andrew Christian Care Center, where she cared and prayed for those in need.

Sarah was an active member of St Andrew Baptist and the Chapel Sunday School Class. She loved to travel and took many trips all over the world with her husband and friends. Along with trips to China, Russia, and Africa, some of her most memorable trips were made with her favorite group of friends, "The Travelers."

Sarah is survived by Buddy Dye, her loving husband of 47 years; two children, Col. Craig Dye, USAF, (Lori), MSgt Brian Dye, USMC, (Angie), brother MSG Stephen McGinnis, USA (RET) (Chitar), sister Sharon Biddle (Joe), and three grandchildren, Jake, Jessica, and Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother David, and sister Peggy.

The family would like to extend our gratefulness to Covenant Hospice, who provided compassionate and professional care to Sarah. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St Andrew Christian Care Center or the ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Foundation.

Visitation will begin on Saturday, January 19th at 10 o'clock am at St Andrew Baptist Church, Panama City, FL with funeral services beginning at 11 o'clock with Dr. Michael Claunch officiating. Burial will be held immediately following at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be submitted or viewed at www.southerlandfamily.com.

Sarah was a wonderful sister and friend. I am so glad I could spend the final 10 days with her, trying to make her as comfortable as possible. She knew where she was going to spend eternity and was ready to make the journey.
She had so many talents and was full of life, viewing each day with her glass half full. She had a loving marriage and adored her sons and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed but I am thankful for having her as my sister.
Our condolences to Buddy, Craig, Brian and their families.

As Sarah's sister, I want to take time to thank everyone who has shown her kindness during her fight with ALS. She is in a much better place and at peace with her Lord and Savior. Our condolences for Buddy and the boys. I know how much you guys meant to Sarah. I will always treasure the 10 days I got to spend with her before she died. Even though it was mentally and physically difficult for me, I am glad I could do what was necessary to make it easier on her.

To Sarah's Family,

Thank you, Craig, for letting me know that Sarah has gone Home. Her vibrant Christian witness made her a bright beacon to all who knew her. Memories of her will inspire many to live for Jesus.

Sarah was so proud to be a Mainland HS "BUC GIRL." She shared her dread diagnosis with us upon return from Africa in September.

We have been praying for her on her difficult journey and will continue praying for all of you as you journey on.

Sincerely,
Mary

Dear Buddy and family, the words that come to my mind as I think of Sarah is laughter, We worked together for 5 yrs. and she always made me laugh or was laughing about something. As she was looking up an address one day at work the next thing I heard her say behind the cubical wall was Chicken Foot Rd.!? And then her laughter filled the room :) Sarah was a delight to be with no matter where you were with her. I have had the privilege, joy and blessing being with Sarah on our Mission Trip to St. Kitts in the Carribean, many women conferences at Ridgecrest CBU and at your home in Bahama, N.C. as well as FBC in Durham, N.C. Sarah knew how to relate with people so well. I loved to hear Sarah pray. She prayed with such love and tenderness from her heart to our Saviors heart. She loved the Lord and that comforts me in knowing we will meet again and laugh again with one another. Our thoughts and prayers to you all Buddy. We love you and miss you. The God of all comfort be your peace and your strength. Jill & Jerry Sexton, New Iberia, Louisiana
