Wanda Gathers Obituary
She was born Feb. 24, 1960, in Port St. Joe as the eighth of 12 bothers and sisters and was educated in the Gulf County public school system. Throughout her childhood and adult life, Wanda was a compassionate sister, a loving daughter and a caring and trustworthy friend.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Leola Gathers; and two brothers, James Earl and Jimmy Gathers. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her passing are a devoted and courageous soulmate, Billy Lee Ellis; her father, Steve Gathers Jr.; her siblings, Robert McClery (Doris) of Miami, Yvonne Landrine of New York City, Carolyn Sims (Thomas Sr.) of Port St. Joe, Doris Morning (the Rev. Ben) of Panama City, Fla., Gwen Dawson (Darion), Sandra Addison of Port St. Joe, Tressie Russ (Fred) of Panama City, Patricia Williams (Robert) of Port St. Joe and Steve Gathers III of Panama City; her special friends, Bessie Willis and Denise Granger; a special aunt, Ms. Emily Jefferson of Panama City; and a host other relatives and caring friends.
Family and friends may call between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. today, Nov. 23, 2007, at Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church, 261 Avenue D, Port St. Joe.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Otis Walker officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Forrest Hill Cemetery.
