Albert Dobson Obituary

SHAMOKIN — Albert A. Dobson Sr., 82, of 33 N. Sixth St., Shamokin, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 1, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his family. He had been in ill health for an extended period.

Born in Ranshaw on Oct. 13, 1926, he was a son of the late Anthony and Felicia (Kotwica) Dobson. He lived in Ranshaw until 1974, then moved to Shamokin.

Al was a 1944 graduate of Coal Township High School and attended the Milwuakee School of Engineering for refrigeration and air conditioning.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon and the Victory Medal.

He was married in St. Anthony's Church, Ranshaw, on June 20, 1953, to the former Ardella M. Rhoades, who survives.

Al was an electrician with IBEW Local 143 in Harrisburg and worked for various electrical construction contractors, including Lecchi Construction. He and his wife also owned and operated H&S Cafe in Shamokin from 1974 to 1984.

He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, Kulpmont.

He was also a member of the American Legion Post 231, the Brady Fire Company and the Rescue Fire Company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, George A. Dobson and companion Bridget of Cross, S.C., and Albert A. Dobson Jr. and wife Lori of Gowen City; a daughter, Cynthia M. Jacobacci and husband Tony of Albrightsville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchidlren; a brother, Leonard J. Dobson of Middletown; a sister, Genevieve Daniels of Shamokin, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Josephine Shubert.

DOBSON — Albert A. Dobson Sr., 82, of 33 N. Sixth St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at our Lady of Hope Church, 832 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township, with a Franciscan Friar as celebrant. A burial with full military honors accorded by the Kulpmont American Legion Post 231 will be at All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. with a wake service at 6 p.m. at the James Kelley Funeral Home, Arch and Maple streets, Coal Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity. Relatives and friends attending the funeral are asked to meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. Thursday. Funeral Arrangements are being handled by the Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, 539 Race St., Sunbury.
