Bernard Sosnoskie Obituary

SHAMOKIN — Bernard M. Sosnoskie, 66, of 512 W. Boyd St., passed away at his residence, Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015.

He was born March 8, 1949, in Coal Township, a son of the late Bernard R. and Ida C. (Sikora) Sosnoskie. He was a lifelong resident of the Shamokin area.

He was a graduate of Shamokin Area High School, class of 1968.

Bernard was married in St. Stephen Church, Coal Township, Sept. 1, 1984, to Christine Smith, who survives.

He was employed for 22 years in the bus maintenance department of the Shamokin Area School District.

Bernard was a member of the former St. Stephen Church, Coal Township, now Our Lady of Hope Church.

He was a life member of 45 years of the West End Fire Company, a social member of the Independence Fire Company, the St. Francis Home Association, and was a Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He served as a Shamokin Area School Board director since 2011.

He was an avid fan of college and professional football and baseball.

Survivors are his wife of 31 years, Christine; a daughter, Christine Nestico and her husband, Anthony, of Nescopeck; a son, Bernard M. Sosnoskie Jr. and his companion, Nicole Burmeister, of Shamokin; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Chloe Nestico. The third of seven children, also surviving are two brothers, Robert J. Sosnoskie, of Ohio, and Charles Sosnoskie and his wife, Patricia, of Shamokin; four sisters; Rosemary Searls and her husband, Robert, of Shamokin, Christine Kinney and her husband, Anthony, of Mechanicsburg, Bernice Snyder, of Coal Township, and Barbara Albert and her husband, Tommy, of Coal Township; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Brownie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard R. Sosnoskie, March 9, 1985, and his mother, Ida C. Sosnoskie, June 16, 1997.

SOSNOSKIE — Bernard M. Sosnoskie, 66, of 512 W. Boyd St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, with the Rev. Steve Frenier as celebrant. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian vigil service at 6 p.m., and Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor, 120 S. Market St., Shamokin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, on-line at cancer.org/donate or P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123-1718.
