Constance Wheary Obituary

BETHLEHEM - Constance A. Wheary, of Bethlehem, died peacefully, Monday, Oct. 9, 2023.

Constance was born in Shamokin, a daughter of Bronislaw "Ben" and Helen (Gryzbowski) Wisnewski. Her two great loves were her family and her Catholic faith.

Constance was educated at St. Stanislaus Kosta School and Shamokin High School.

Constance was happily married for 56 years to Jack Wheary, with whom she raised three children, Christine, John and Jennifer.

Constance's dream, which she worked tirelessly to achieve, was that each of her children would be a college graduate. Through hard work, creativity, tenacity and sheer force of will, she succeeded. For this her kids are forever grateful.

Constance was the proud and adoring grandmother of Karla, Jillian and Noah.

She never turned down a yard sale or a visit to Boscov's to seek out gifts for her three precious treasures. She also never turned down a chance to celebrate a family occasion by raising a glass with her daughter-in-law, Michelle, and son-in-law, Paul.

Constance kept her nieces, nephews and cousins close to her heart and in her prayers.

A lifelong bookkeeper, she worked at Lockett's Dress Shop and then began a 27-year career working for St. Stanislaus, St. Michael, St. Stephen and ultimately Our Lady of Hope parishes in Shamokin.

Constance traveled as much as possible upon retirement, visiting Mexico, Alaska, Aruba, Indiana, Nova Scotia, Scotland, London and Ireland. Unafraid of change and always up for an adventure, Constance began a new life moving to Bethlehem with her beloved husband Jack, in 2013.

Constance always endeavored to look her best. Her signature style was a brightly colored blouse and skirt, sparkly beads, rings on every finger and meticulously applied bright red lipstick. She possessed an unparalleled collection of attention-grabbing hats and wore one of them to Sunday Mass each week for decades. For anyone she cared about, Constance ended every conversation not with goodbye, but with the phrase "Bless you and I love you."

High spirited and ever faithful, Constance will be forever missed by her family and friends. Bless you and we love you, Connie.

WHEARY - Constance A. Wheary, of Bethlehem. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 210 E. Northampton St., Bath. Interment will be held privately with the family in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Bath. In lieu of flowers, consider donating in Constance's honor to Holy Family Manor, 1200 Spring St., Bethlehem 18018, or at holyfamilysl.org.
