Ricarte Richard "Rick" Wheary

1963 - 2024

TREVORTON - Ricarte Richard "Rick" Wheary, 61, of Trevorton, entered into eternal glory Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024, after an 11-year battle with cancer. He enjoyed life and lived life to the fullest up until the day he passed.

Rick was born in Philadelphia, Sept. 14, 1963.

He was a 1981 graduate of Line Mountain High School. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and later became a leader for Boy Scouts while serving in Louisiana.

Rick served in the U.S. Air Force, from 1981-87, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, in Texas, and England Air Force Base, in Alexandria, Louisiana. He served as a senior airman equipment maintenance machinist on the elite A-10 Warthogs for the Flying Tigers 23 Tactical Fighter Wing.

He enjoyed his career as a machinist/CNC programmer for Mold Base Industries, in Harrisburg, for 34 years.

Rick was a beacon of light and hope in our community and made an impact on everyone he met. He attended Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, in Shamokin, for more than 30 years where he formerly taught Sunday school classes for fifth and sixth grades and assisted with the youth group. He loved the Lord and his church family.

He coached girls softball for several years when his daughters were young and served as treasurer and an active member of the Zerbe Rod and Gun Club. He was also a Home Association trustee of American Legion Post 92, in Trevorton.

Rick loved the outdoors where he spent time hunting, camping and bike riding and exploring new places and things. He loved to go on road trips to travel and see the world.

His hobbies included going out for breakfast with his brother and friends, rebuilding tractors and antique vehicles, flying airplanes and being with family and friends. He had a passion for life and loved to meet new people. He could strike up conversations with anyone he met.

Rick loved his wife, Janeene "Jan" (Ginck) Wheary, for more than 35 years. They created a beautiful life together, and have two daughters, Corinne Bordner (Anthony), of New Oxford, and Jenna Adams (Daniel), of Herndon. He absolutely adored his granddaughter, Kinley Adams, and was looking forward to meeting the next Baby Adams coming in April.

Rick is survived by his brother, Morton Wheary (Sharon), of Coal Township; two sisters, Sandy Shaw (James), of Sterling, Connecticut, and Theresa Walsh (William), of New Bedford, Massachusetts; a half-sister, Sandra Eaton, of Norwich, Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Anna Wheary; a brother, Barnett Wheary; and a half-sister, Hattie Logan.

WHEARY - Ricarte Richard "Rick" Wheary, 61, of Trevorton. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, 35 S. Second St., Shamokin, with Pastor Ferd Madara officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Robert G.
