SHAMOKIN - Daniel Johns, 75, of Shamokin, passed away peacefully Saturday night, Sept. 10, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville, surrounded with the love of his wife, Mimi, and daughter, Suzy.
He was born in Shamokin, Jan. 9, 1947, a son of the late Marlin and Margaret (Horn) Johns.
Dan was a 1964 graduate of Coal Township High School.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. As a private first class he was stationed in Xuan Loc, South Vietnam, as a radio teletype operator and fought through the Tet Offensive. We are thankful for his service, proud of his accomplishments and extremely grateful he came home.
On June 7, 1969, at St. Stanislaus Church, he married the love of his life, Mary "Mimi" Nasatka. He was a devoted husband to Mimi for 53 wonderful and beautiful years together.
Dan was an incredible and the best father, grandfather "Pappa," father-in-law, uncle and friend that everyone adored and looked up to. He was a kind, generous and proud man who was great at everything he did. Dan always paid attention to detail from his clothes to all his unique and Dan-original woodworking projects he made for his family; furniture, shelves, frames, crafts and the list goes on.
He worked most of his life as a union Local 445 carpenter, which is where he learned and executed his talents, passion and superior skills in building for more than 50 years, retiring from Bognet Inc. as an estimator/project manager.
Over the years, you would find Dan shooting pool with his teammates, going on scenic drives with his wife and friends on his motorcycle, working on endless craft projects for his wife and daughter, spending time with and spoiling his only grandson, Joey, sharing his knowledge, advice and awesome "dad jokes," and talking sports, PSU football, music and computers with his son-in-law, Joe. He also enjoyed being on softball and bowling teams.
Dan is survived by his amazing wife, Mimi; his daughter, Suzanne and his son-in-law, Joseph Bressi and grandson, Joey, all of Palmyra; his sister, Nancy and her husband, Robert Weaver, of Shamokin; his brother, Wayne Johns and his wife, Patricia, of Watsontown; and several cousins, nieces and nephews who meant a lot to him.
Dan was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Johns, of New York, and Marlin "Chew" Johns of Florida; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Nasatka) Rysz, and brother-in-law Conrad Nasatka, of Pennsylvania.
