SUNBURY - Edward T. Shingara Sr., 80, of Sunbury, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law.
He was born April 11, 1938, in Shamokin, a son of Lottie (Nye) Shingara and Stephen Shingara.
Edward attended Coal Township High School, where he played football. He ended his high school career early to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He served for three years in the 101st Airborne Battalion, where he attended officer training, heavy equipment training and leadership schooling at Fort Belvoir,Virginia.
How he lived his life: mechanic, farmhand, truck driver, coal miner and state mine inspector until retirement, but most notably as a musician.
He was witty, a hunter and a patriot.
He genuinely enjoyed surrounding himself with family and friends. He encouraged everyone around him to be competitive, honest and all that they can be.
He was a member of Trevorton VFW, Herndon Fire Company and the Masons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Michael, Steve and Fritz Shingara; two sisters, Daisy Yost and Elizabeth Williams; a daughter, Sharry Shingara; his wife, Sylvia (Campbell) Shingara, and a son, Edward Shingara Jr.
He is survived by a sister, Christine Yost; a brother, Daniel and his wife, Jean Shingara; a sister, Margaret Conrad; a sister, Sally and her husband, Barry Shovlin; a daughter, Debra and her husband, Eugene Harris; grandchildren, Brigette and her husband, Jeremy Styer, Bo and his wife, Janice Harris, Edward Shingara III and his wife, Martha Shingara, Brandon Harris, Zachary Shingara and Olivia Shingara; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kaleb, Edward IV, Everette, Zachary Jr., Marko, Giusseppe and Amelia, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family of 511.

SHINGARA - Edward T. Shingara Sr., 80, of Sunbury. A viewing and funeral services will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Lutheran Church, 167 Seven Points Road, Sunbury. Services will immediately follow the viewing. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington, with a dinner to follow at Danny Shingara's residence. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to your favorite charity in his name. The Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral, 395 State St., Sunbury, has charge of arrangements.
