Gerald Greenly Obituary

MILTON - Gerald C. Greenly, 90, of Milton, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Millville on September 17, 1934, he was the son of the late Horace LaRue and Florence Margaret (Gardner) Greenly. He was married to the former Ruth Snyder. They would have been married 70 years on June 3.

He was a 1952 graduate of Millville High School and worked for the Millville Planing Mill, American Home Foods, and later owned Susquehanna Construction Co. He served in the U.S. Army and PA National Guards.

He loved hunting and fishing. He was a standout soccer and baseball player in high school. He enjoyed picnics with his family and friends. He was a member of the Milton Lutheran Church, a Freemason, the Consistory and Sojourners. He was a member of the Loyalsock Creek Mens Club and a member of the Big Run Hunting Club. He was a founding member of the Milton Booster Club and a Super Booster award winner. He was a founding member of the Milton Panther Cubs and also coached. He was a Little League Coach and won Milton's Second District Title as All Star Coach. He also coached wrestling at Milton and is in the District 4 Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame as well as the Milton Coaches Hall of Fame. He was named the YMCA's Sam Fisher Award for dedication to youth in Milton. He also was named the Standard Journals Most influential. He was named for all of the above but also for his work in building the football and baseball fields at Veterans Park. He hauled the dirt for the fields and built dugouts and bleachers which have been used by many youths in the community. He enjoyed square dancing with Ruth. They were members of The Penn Wheelers Square Dance Group.

In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by two sons Robert Greenly and his wife Deborah of Milton, and Steven J. Greenly of Milton, two daughters Dianne E. Perrin and her fiancé Allen Carpenter of Milton, and Sandra J. Fitzgerald and her husband Kevin of Lexington, KY, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee E. Greenly, Richard Greenly and Jay Greenly, and a sister Jane Greenly.

Friends and relatives will be received on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Milton Lutheran Church, 1125 Mahoning St., Milton. A memorial service will begin at 4 with Rev. Gary Schaeffer officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.

Memorial contributions in Gerald's name may be made to the Milton Lutheran Church, 1125 Mahoning St., Milton PA 17847 or to the Milton High School Booster Club, 700 Mahoning St., Milton, PA 17847.
