MOUNT CARMEL — Henry R. Shoup, 69, of Mount Carmel, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by his family.
He was born at the former Ashland State General Hospital, Feb. 24, 1947, a son of the late Richard and Mary Snowden Shoup.
Henry graduated from Ashland Area High School, class of 1966.
Following high school, Henry joined the U.S. Navy as a communications specialist serving in the Vietnam War, until he was honorably discharged in 1969.
In 1998, Henry married the former Geraldine Radzewicz, who survives.
He was employed as a coal miner and later worked with his brother, Joe Shoup Contracting, until his retirement.
He was a member of the former Zion Lutheran Church, Girardville, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2110, Mount Carmel, the O'Donnell-Martin-Baldino VFW Post 7654, Ashland, and the American Legion Post 91, Mount Carmel.
In addition to his wife, Geraldine, he is survived by daughters, Heather Wehry and her husband, Ralph, of Ashland, and Shannon Dumboski and her husband, Al, of Gordon; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Dauber and her husband, Erik, of Binghamton, New York; three sisters, Doris Grohuski and her husband, James, of Mount Carmel, Beverley Wehry and her husband, John, of Locustdale, and Janice E. Shoup, of Roslyn; two brothers, Richard S. Shoup, of Fountain Springs, and Joseph F. Shoup and his fiancé, Josie, of Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen L. Bird, grandson, Damien Deeter, sister, Mary Brewer, brother, John E. Shoup, and stepson, James Collier.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with the Rev. Dr. Kim L. Lengert, officiating.
