WILBURTON - James R. Oakum Sr., 80, of Wilburton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 10, 1941, a son of the late Harold "Chick" and Tessie (Mannello) Oakum.
He attended Conyngham schools.
On Nov. 23, 1963, he married Roberta Thompson, who survives.
Jim was an accomplished drummer and musician. He played drums in various bands such as The Rock Tones and the Rockets. He was also a private drumming instructor. Before his retirement, he was employed as an auto salesman with Klock's Auto, in Paxinos.
In his later years, "Big Jim" helped manage his son's band, Deuce, and was active in the local music scene and entertainment field. He enjoyed going out to hear and support many of the area's local bands.
Jim was a big jazz fan and could be found listening to the music of Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson and drummer Buddy Rich at any hour of the day or night. He enjoyed hosting music nights for his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived and will be sorely missed by his daughter, Natalie Adams and Joseph Ramer; his son, James Oakum Jr. and Autumn Kubitsky; four grandchildren, Noah and Landon Adams, and Jarrod and Ashlea Oakum; his granddog, Meeshka, and Deuce family members, relatives and many friends.
