PHOENIXVILLE - John David Hancock, 74, of Phoenixville, and formerly of Shamokin, passed away of natural causes at his home Friday, April 1, 2022.
John was born March 1, 1948, to Gale and Agnes Hancock.
He graduated from Shamokin Area High School and attended Susquehanna University before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1967.
While in the Army he worked in communications, serving in Thailand and Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star before his discharge.
For most of John's adult life he lived in Florida. He earned a business degree and worked in pharmaceutical documentation. John moved back to Pennsylvania and continued his work in the Phoenixville area before his retirement.
John enjoyed visiting his family and made frequent trips to Shamokin to spend time with his mother before her death in 2008. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and looked forward to picnics at Halfway Dam and walks in the Pennsylvania woods. John also enjoyed working with stained glass and created beautiful window hangings.
John is survived by his sisters, Donna Devlin, of Shamokin, and Lorraine Ravis and her husband, Charles, of Maine. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and -nephews who knew that time spend with Uncle Johnny was filled with good conversation and laughter.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a favorite aunt, Jean Hancock; and his brother-in-law, Gerald Devlin.
