MOUNT CARMEL - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John J. "Wimpy" Kwiatkowski, 80, of Mount Carmel, who died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, while enjoying one of his favorite sports, shuffleboard.
John was raised in Atlas and attended Mount Carmel Area High School, where he both wrestled and played football for the Red Tornadoes. He was a son of John and Jean (Cripps) Kwiatkowski. He spent much of his youth with his grandmother.
Upon graduation, John joined the workforce, eventually settling into banking and finance.
He married the love of his life, Carol Keefer, in 1965, and had four children, Rod and his wife, Kim, Ranae Amezquita and her husband, Joe, Rachel Chesney and her husband, Jeff, and Reagan Haberl and her husband, Jeff. Together they had eight grandchildren, Ralene Kwiatkowski, Kyle, Katelyn and Kelsey Amezquita, Nicholas and Derek Chesney and Olivia and Luke Haberl; and three great-grandchildren, Natalia, Aubrey and Zoey Pino. He had the pleasure of seeing them graduate from college, marrying and having children. This gave him tremendous pride.
John spent much of his time nurturing young athletes by coaching Holy Spirit football and the American Hose baseball teams. An avid sports fan, he followed all his children in their sports careers. Known for his affable personality and good humor, he was a popular figure and well known in Mount Carmel. He always had a smile and a good wish for all those in his company. He was a loyal member of the Mount Carmel Fraternal Order of Eagles.
John was well loved and will be greatly missed by devoted family and many good friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and a brother, Jim Vitale.
May he rest in peace after a life well lived. His love will forever be our guiding light!
