COAL TOWNSHIP - Paul J. Hooper, 101, of Coal Township, passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at his daughter's home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Mount Carmel, August 11, 1920, a son of the late Ida (Geist) and William Hooper.
Paul attended Mount Carmel High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a recipient of several Bronze Star medals.
Paul married the late Margaret (Ferster) Hooper, Feb. 16, 1942, in Baltimore, and was married to her until her death in 1987.
Paul worked in the Baltimore shipyards and then lastly for the Reading Railroad-Conrail.
Paul was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Hunter Station.
He enjoyed "mechanical tinkering," fishing, traveling and camping. Paul was the former co-owner of West Branch Campers Association.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Dianne Lenig-Mushinski, wife of Joseph, of Coal Township; a sister, Patsy Strausser, of Michigan; a granddaughter, Margaret Lenig-Rocco, wife of Nick, of Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Trisha Lenig-Sponenberg, wife of Michael, of Coal Township; a son-in-law, Harold Jamison, of Coal Township; three great-grandchildren Jordan (Michelle) Wagner, Megan (Casey) Wagner and Evan (Kristina) Jamison; a great-great-grandson, Kieran Jamison.
In addition to his spouse, Paul was preceded in death by a son, P. Richard Hooper; a sister, Annabell Pensyl-Mecury; a nephew, Freddie Moody; and two nieces, Kathleen Pensyl and Valory Strausser.
HOOPER - Paul J. Hooper, 101, of Coal Township. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 5933 Route 225, Shamokin (Hunters Station). Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will take place following the service at Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Paul's memory to Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library, 210 E.
