COAL TOWNSHIP - Ronald J. Marcheskie, 75, of 950 W. Water St., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Danville on April 2, 1948, a son of the late Alvin and Elizabeth "Betty" (Balchunas) Marcheskie.
Ron graduated from Shamokin Area High School.
Following his graduation, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969 before receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1971.
He was married to Phyllis A. (Otto) Marcheskie on October 4, 1969, in St. Stephen Church, Coal Township. They celebrated 60 wonderful years together, 54 of them married.
"Peanuts", as he was known by many, following his Army discharge began working as a tree trimmer for numerous companies. In 1985, he began his career working for J.C. Ehrlich Co. until his retirement in 2010.
He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader, Sunday School teacher, youth group leader. He also served as a lay speaker in many churches in the area. He was very involved serving God.
Ron loved music. He was a drummer for numerous bands, the last being "Sound Expression."
Ron loved his family with his whole heart. He followed his grandsons in all of their sports and activities. He was known as "Dad" and "Pap" by many. Ron took great enjoyment traveling with his family and going on cruises with his wife, his favorite being Alaska. He always enjoyed and looked forward to spending time at his brother Dennis' camp.
He loved life to the fullest and was loved by many. Peanuts was known for his quick wit and humor.
Ron would want everyone to live life for Christ, love your family, and laugh much.
In addition to his loving wife Phyllis, Ron is survived by a daughter, Traci Gurba, and her husband Paul, of Coal Township; two grandsons, Paul T. Gurba III, and Ronald J. "R.J." Gurba; two brothers, Dennis J. Marcheskie and William Marcheskie; a sister, Gloria J. Kashner, and her husband Richard; a sister-in-law, Billie Martin; a brother-in-law, George Kashner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin "Cookie" Marcheskie, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Alice Otto; a sister-in-law, Barbara Kashner; and a brother-in-law, Scott Martin.
MARCHESKIE - Ronald J. Marcheskie, 75, of 950 W. Water St., Coal Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township. The Rev. Alicia M. Julia-Stanley and Rev. Karyn Fisher will preside at the service. Interment will follow at Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. The family requests as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 1201 W. Arch St., Coal Township, PA 17866 or Residential Hospice, 4650 Westbranch Hwy., Suite 150, Lewisburg, PA 17837. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
