Scott E. Small

CATAWISSA - Scott E. Small, 77, of Catawissa, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer.

He was born Bloomsburg Hospital, Feb. 14, 1946, a son of the late Russell and Louise (Karnes) Small.

Scott graduated from Catawissa High School, in 1965, and then joined the Army National Guard, being honorably discharged in 1972.

He worked for Erwines Incorp., of Bloomsburg, for 38 years, followed by working for Geisinger in facilities until his retirement in 2011.

Scott was a member of the Catawissa Hose Co. as a firefighter and ran on the ambulance crew in the early 1970s. He was also a member of the Catawissa American Legion Post 541 and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was one of the original charter members of the Bent Barrel Hunting Club, in Wellsboro, and a former board member of the Catawissa Water Authority.

Scott enjoyed hunting deer and turkey with his daughter, and going fishing at his favorite places on Lake Nuangola and the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.

Scott is survived by his wife, Fran (Vytovich) Small, and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 15, 2023; his daughter, Dr. Jennifer Small and her companion, Nick Mattucci Jr., of Catawissa; a sister-in law, Terri (Rich) Kornacki; a niece, Alecia (Josh) Mowrey; a nephew, Richard (Meagen) Kornacki; and great-nephews Aiden, Cole and Sawyer. He will be greatly missed by Missy, his beloved dog, who laid by his bed until his very last day; Oliver, the cat; and his grand dogs, Ember "Elvira" and Ivory, Golden Retrievers; and grand cat, Sylvester. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa, with Pastor Charles Swank officiating. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
