SHAMOKIN - Walter Thomas "Tom" Dobeck, 76, of 207 W. Chestnut St., went to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 30, 2021, after being stricken ill suddenly in his home.
Tom was born July 1, 1944, in Shamokin, a son of the late Walter and Gertrude (O'Brien) Dobeck.
He graduated from Coal Township High School.
Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was based in Germany serving with Battery B, 5th Missile Battalion, 6th Artillery Division. He was a missile man and sharpshooter of the M-14 rifle. Enlisting in 1962, he received an honorable discharge in 1964.
Tom worked various jobs. He loved music, Bluegrass being his favorite. He could play any instrument by ear. His favorites were the guitar, harmonica and the accordion.
He enjoyed reading his Bible and knew many Scriptures.
Tom served as president of the Redman Club, Shamokin, until the time of his death. He was well loved by all and by his "Redman family." He was also a member of the American Legion.
He will be deeply missed and never forgotten!
Tom is survived by his loving sister, Diane Dobson and her husband, Bill, of Shamokin; four beautiful children, son, Tom Dobeck and his wife, Amy, of Barnesville, daughter, Kelly Lynn Ebersole and her husband, Raymond C. Ebersole Jr., of Paxinos, son, Gabriel Dobeck and daughter, Sarah Dobeck, both of Shamokin; grandchildren, Nadine Dobeck, Bree Dobeck, Ryan Varano, Tyler Spears, Mark Andro Dobeck, Jeremiah J. Jashinskie and Daniel A. Dietz; a great-grandchild, Kailee Stewart; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a brother Bobby; a grandson, Jarid M. Spears; a nephew Barry Moroskie; and aunts and uncles.
DOBECK - Walter Thomas "Tom" Dobeck, 76, of 207 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, with the Rev. David Butler, pastor of Bethel Union Chapel, will officiate at the 1 p.m. religious funeral service. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date with military honors at Indiantown Gap National Veteran Cemetery, Annville.
