Wayne Benfer Obituary

Wayne W. "Woody" Benfer, 76, Wiconisco Avenue, Tower City, died Sunday, Jan. 2, at the Schuylkill Medical Center-South, Pottsville.

Born in Watsontown, May 20, 1934, he was a son of the late James and Clara Dunn Benfer.

Wayne was a 1952 graduate of the former Watsontown High School. He was a farmer in Milton and a school bus driver for the Milton and Williams Valley School Districts. He also worked in the shipping department of the Chef Boyardee Plant in Milton.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tower City and a member of Milton Lodge F&AM #256 and the Williamsport Consistory. He was a former member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Pottsgrove.

In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his first wife, Nancy Dilts Benfer, 1968; and a brother, Ivan.

Surviving are his wife, Harriet L. Billmeyer Benfer; one daughter, Pamela J. Shurtz and her husband Rodger, Pottsgrove; one son, Raymond W.N. Benfer, New Columbia; two brothers, Eugene Benfer, Watsontown and Dennis Benfer, Selinsgrove; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tower City with Rev. Linda Bonfiglio officiating. Burial was at the Watsontown Cemetery, Watsontown.
