Charles D. Van Fossen

Stuarts Draft - Charles David Van Fossen, 78, of 538 Wilda Rd., died Tuesday (March 13, 2018) in the Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Hospice Care, Charlottesville.

Born May 8, 1939 in Augusta County, he was a son of Robert Lewis and Edith Geneva (Rexrode) Van Fossen. On August 27, 1960, he married his "Sugie," Mildred Frances Bosserman. He was employed for 50 years by Shenandoah Acres Resort. Charles loved being outdoors and was a dedicated gardener. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph and Thomas Van Fossen; and two grandchildren, Charles Hiram Van Fossen and Jared Kyle Van Fossen. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Curtis Lee Van Fossen and wife Dottie of Greenville, Gary Wayne Van Fossen and wife Susan of Stuarts Draft, and David Scott Van Fossen and wife Jeannie of Stuarts Draft; two brothers, Ronnie Van Fossen and wife Freda of Stuarts Draft and Rayburn "Butch" Van Fossen of Salem; one grandson, Nicholas Austin Van Fossen; and a special friend, Kenny Beverley.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Dennis Bradley, Sr. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the funeral service. A burial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens.
