Age: 64 • Staunton, VA
George Edward Solt, 64, husband of Peggy (Beachum) Solt, of Staunton, died Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Norfolk General Hospital.
He was born October 26, 1952, in Bowie, Maryland, a son of Sylvia (Eastep) Solt Boyle and the late John Edward Solt.
Prior to retirement, George was employed by Verizon as a phone switch technician with 35 years of service. He was a swim instructor for children at the YMCA.
George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a contagious smile and positive energy. He was an avid musician, artist, music lover, and Star Trek fan. George loved his life in Staunton, Diet Coke, and Yahtzee.
In addition to his wife and mother, family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Niki Solt of Ruckersville and Justin and Jana Solt of Richmond; two daughters and a son-in-law, Angela and Robert Wilson of Staunton and Ashleigh Solt and Josh Angus of Crimora; two brothers, Arthur Solt and Roger Solt both of Ocean City, MD; a sister, Elizabeth Peters of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren, Brianna Solt, Allyson Solt, Rowan Solt, Gavin Solt, Aiden Solt, Barrett Solt, and Carson Angus.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 in St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sarah Locke and Pastor Shane Lilly. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
Friends attending the service are encouraged to wear bright colors for George.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Staunton-Augusta YMCA, 708 N Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401.

George's kindness and always willing to help attitude was a blessing to our family and I'm sure his friends.At a family reunion a few years ago he went out of his way to do a most wonderful video of our family. He shared stories that not many of us knew. When my mom's 70th rolled around he made her a video of her life. Such talent he had for those things. I hear he was writing a book and am sad that we will not be able to read it. He was always smiling and making others laugh. I am still in shock and can't believe that someone so wonderful was taken from us so soon. RIP George, your Aunt Cecile is up there making you a tuna sandwich :) Sending much love to the family.....

I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you and all the family. George was a great friend to me and my late husband. He would come and visit him when he was very ill and read the Bible to him. After he died and the weather was bad, he would come over to my home (across the street) and care for my dog while I was at work. That is a true and gracious friend. He went beyond what I would have expected. I am praying for you every day and I am here for you.

George always had a smile on his face. He was an excellent instructor and will be missed terribly by the children he taught. He truly went the distance as an instructor and as a lap swimmer. He will be missed. God bless
