Isabel B. Strickler

Churchville - Isabel Eudora Boward Strickler, 87, died Wednesday (June 9, 2021) in The Legacy at Staunton.

Born October 23, 1933 in Augusta County, she was the daughter of Lacy Crum Boward and Dorothy Pearl (Link) Boward Shumate. She was a graduate of Churchville High School.

She led a full life as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, particularly enjoying the busyness of gardening and canning. Isabel was known as "The Flower Lady" because of her beautiful flower gardens at the entrance to the village. She also was a school bus driver for Augusta County Schools for many years. Isabel attended Loch Willow Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Guy Franklin Strickler, Jr.

She was well-loved by her family, who include her husband of 70 years, Guy Franklin Strickler; her daughter, Dottie Westhafer and husband Tommy of Verona; a grandson, Jason Aaron Springel of Greenville; and a granddaughter, Krystle Westhafer Piazza and husband Nick of Burnsville, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Isabel Springel, Madisan Rae Springel and Logan Thomas Baxter; and her very special cat, "Smokey."

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 14 in Pleasant View Cemetery, with Pastor Reed Hopkins officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jason Springel, Nick Piazza, Jeff Strickler, John Arehart, Kenneth Page, and John Cree.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Bear Funeral Home.
