James W. Collier, Jr.

Age: 73 • Staunton

James W. Collier, Jr., 73, of Staunton, passed into his eternal rest on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He was born in Charlottesville on February 20, 1942, son of the late James Walter Collier and Annie Harlow Collier. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Michael Collier.

 Jim was a Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Forrestal (CVA-59). He retired from GE and GENICOM and for many years was active in the Wilson Memorial Band Boosters.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly fifty years, Norma Collier; daughter, Daphne Collier and her husband, Eddie Vaughan of Atlanta; son, Jason Collier of Staunton; granddaughter, Sofia Cheyenne Collier of Waynesboro; great-grandson, Sebastian Ramirez of Waynesboro; sister, Beverley Collier of Staunton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his loyal companion, "Tipi".

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, in the Chapel of Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, where funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM, conducted by The Rev. Pete Campbell.  The family will also greet friends following the service.

Interment, with U. S. Navy Military Honors, will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 10, 2016, in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
