Mr. Samuel Wayne Johnson

Age: 73 • Waynesboro

Samuel Wayne Johnson, age 73, was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 3, 2016

He was born July 1, 1942, in Rockbridge County, VA to the late Samuel Franklin and Mavis Lorene Worley Johnson. 

He is survived by his children, Theresa J. Layne, Tracey J. Markowich  (David) and Samuel Todd Johnson (Carole).  Also surviving are two grandsons, Daniel P. Layne (Jennifer) and Matthew S. Layne (Tasha) as well as 4 great grand children.  He was a loving brother to Nancy J. Pitchford (Wilson) , Jimmy R. Johnson (Nettie) and Paula J. Almond (Loren).  He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Joanne S. Johnson in 2005.  He is survived by the mothers of his children, Jane H. Law and Hazel A. Johnson.  He was most recently married to Lisa E. Johnson.   He shared special memories with his many step-children:  Pam Campbell,  Gary Adcock, Stanley Adcock, Rodney Adcock, David Adcock, Brenda Adcock St Onge, Cricket Lawhorne, Deanna Simmers, Kristina Harmon, Candace Harmon and Tommy Harmon, as well as many step grandchildren.

Sam was a highly skilled machinist and welder.  He was quick to tell you that he retired from Hershey Chocolate in 2012 with "30 years and 8 days" of service.  He enjoyed hunting & fishing,  grooming & showing his springer spaniels and traveing .  He also loved working on cars, auto racing  and riding his motorcycle.  His favorite sport was baseball and he was a lifelong Red Sox fan.

Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2016 at McDow Funeral Home 5 to 7 PM, and other times at the home of his daughter 104 Jasper Lane, Waynesboro.  A service will be held at the Chapel of McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro  on Saturday, February 6 at 2:00.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro  immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 3025 Berkmar Dr. Charlottesville, Va. 22901;  Shenandoah Valley Animal Services, 1001 Mt Torrey Road, Lyndhurst, VA 22952; or a local animal Shelter of your choice.
