Wilber L. Detamore

Age: 93 • Staunton

Wilber Lee "Fee" Detamore, 93, widower of Nancy Bell (Kyle) Detamore, of 401 Brookwood Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 19, 2017 while in Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mr. Detamore was born on May 6, 1923 in Dayton, Virginia, a son of the late Robert H. and Elsie Detamore.

"Fee" was a dedicated lifelong member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and other various committees. He was a very proud Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II, and he was self-employed as owner and operator of Detamore Printing for 53 years. Mr. Detamore was a life member of the Staunton Lion's Club, a member of the Staunton-Augusta VFW Post 2216 and he enthusiastically marched in all of the Veteran's Day Parades with his comrades.

In addition to his parents and wife of 65 years, Mr. Detamore was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd Detamore, Eugene Detamore, Roscoe Detamore, and Homer Detamore; and two sisters, Marietta Quarforth and Anna Belle Muir.     

Surviving is a son, Anderson L. "Andy" Detamore and his wife Pauline; a daughter, Suzanne D. Newlen and her husband Ricky both of Staunton; four grandchildren, Joshua Rankin and his fiancée Wendy Thompson, Ryan Jenkins and her husband Chris, Tyler Benson, and Cassidy Benson; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Rankin, Trevor Rankin, Charlee K. Jenkins, Aubrey Rankin, and Zaidyn Benson; a sister, Betty Jo Christeller of Richmond; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in the St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

A Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in the St. Paul's United Methodist Church by Pastor Bryson Smith, Pastor Wade Munford, and Pastor Sam Talley.

Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Joshua Rankin, Tyler Benson, Dylan Rankin, Trevor Rankin, Ricky Newlen, and Chris Jenkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be special friends, Charles and Susan Huffman, Junior Conner and members of the Staunton Lion's Club and the ushers of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the McDonalds morning gang and the employees for their support and concern for Mr. Detamore.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2000 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, Virginia 24401, or the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901.

Hey Andy, You know I always looked up to your dad and loved to talk about WWII with him. Of course politics as well. And to listen to his lectures on the evils of booze he would give us. He was an outstanding American and role model and I will miss him. E. Piner
