Agnes Joyce Greimann

1932 - 2025

Agnes Joyce Greimann passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in Sitka, Alaska. Agnes was born Dec. 15, 1932, in Albert, Canada, to Nicholas and Anne Skoreyka.

On Feb. 19, 1949, Agnes met her beloved husband, Paul, in Edmonton, Alberta. Paul was assisting in the delivery of buses for his father's business, Alaska Coachways, locate in Fairbanks.

Their first date came by the way of a coin toss between Paul and another driver. Paul won the toss and her heart. For eight months, Agnes, in Edmonton and Paul, in Fairbanks, exchanged heartfelt letters, pledging their love for each other. One letter, from Paul, included a marriage proposal. Agnes joyfully accepted.

They were married Oct. 19, 1949, in Edmonton, beginning a life of adventure, raising their family, and supporting each other throughout life during good and difficult times. After their marriage, they moved to Fairbanks, where Agnes worked for many businesses, most notably the First National Bank and the borough school district. She retired from the school district in 1992.

They lived in 19 different dwellings in Alaska, Arizona and Canada. In each place, where there was space for a garden, she spent many hours there. She loved nurturing hanging flower baskets, rose bushes, strawberries and raspberries.

After retirement, Agnes and Paul spent 30 years RVing across Canada and the United States, wintering in Green Valley, Arizona.

In 2019 she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. She faced it with strength and grace. She entered the Sitka Pioneer Home in 2023, where she received loving care. She lived a life, defined by the love of her family, faith and resilience to life's adversities.

She is survived by her husband, Paul, of 75-plus years; three children, Gloria Pies (Mitch), Curtis (Diane) and Joyce Lucia (Don); nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings; her son, Kenneth; and daughter, Linda Fenner.

A special thanks goes out to the Sitka Brave Heart Volunteers, to the staff of the Pioneer Home, and Pioneer Home residents, who nurtured her with loving care.
