Connie Ott Obituary

Connie left this adventure known as life for the calm of the great beyond, on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, where she was attended by friends and family.
Connie was born on May 8, 1938, to Darlene Jeanette (Jean) and Lionel VaNae Ott in Hutchison, Kans. She spent the majority of her youth growing up in California, having many adventures. She had held a number of jobs including working at a radio station promoting bands, lacing shoes in an assembly line, selling Suzuki Motorcycles, and did a stint in college with aspirations of being a park ranger.
After visiting her mother in Alaska, Connie took a leap and moved up to Alaska with her dear friend, Neal Kutchens, and worked on the trans-Alaska oil pipeline. Together they carved out a piece of the wilderness where she made her home, caring for numerous horses and dogs throughout the years.
Connie then worked for more than 20 years at the Delta Greely School District in various functions, was active in the union and helped ensure school support staff were able to obtain benefits from the State of Alaska. She also volunteered for, and later ran, the Delta Rescue Squad, serving the community through practice and in teaching others to become EMTs and ETTs.
Her biggest accomplishment and source of joy was in raising her "son" and dearest friend, Timothy Mark Ott Huebscher. Tim's biggest gift to Connie was his daughter, Harleigh, who provided Connie with many hours of joy and love.
She is survived by her mother, Jean Daugherty; brothers, David Daugherty and Thomas Daugherty; and sister, Didema Daugherty, all of Anchorage; son, Timothy Huebscher, and granddaughter, Harleigh, in Delta Junction. She held a special place in her heart for her two faithful furry companions, Lucy and Shandy.
A celebration of remembrance and potluck will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Delta Community Center. The family has requested her friends bring stories and a dish to share.

To the family: Saying good-bye must be the hardest thing in the world for you, and words seem like such little things compared to what all of you are going through. With deepest sympathy.

I'm sorry to read of Connie's passing. She organized one of the first EMT refresher classes I taught in Alaska and made me feel welcome. I'm sure she'll be sorely missed by many. My condolences to all of her friends and family.
