Daniel Daigle Obituary

Daniel Thomas Daigle, 68, of Salcha, passed away Mon. Aug. 24. Daniel was born Feb. 16, 1947, in Fittchburg, Massachusetts.
In 1965, Dan married the love of his life, Jan, who he is survived by. After graduating and serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War (1965-69), Dan moved his family to New Hampshire, where he opened and operated his own tire and auto shop for several years. Dan had a love for dog mushing and flying, which is what brought him to Alaska in 1990 but his true passion later became hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He took every opportunity to take them out. Dan was a sergeant in the CVEO division with the state of Alaska for the last 16 years and was a member of the APOA. He had a helping hand for anyone he encountered. Dan and Jan recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Daigle, of Salcha; Daughters, Monique (Danny) Slongwhite, of North Pole, and Wendy (Clem) Hamilton, of Laconia, New Hampshire; Grandsons, Connor (Julia) Hamilton, of Camp Pendleton Marine Base, California, Ethan (Kimberly) Slongwhite, of Marine Corps Air Station Mirimar, California, Evan Slongwhite, of North Pole; Granddaughter, Rylee Slongwhite of North Pole; Great Granddaughter, Emma Slongwhite, of Marine Corps Air Station Mirimar, and his beloved pets, Ruger and Abby.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey A. Daigle; Mother Lorraine Frank Daigle; Brothers, David Daigle, Ronald Daigle and Gary Daigle.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 7-9 p.m. at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Diabetes Association. For further information, please contact Monique Slongwhite at 978-0443. Arrangements are entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.

Dear Jan and family,

I am so shocked and saddened by the news of Dan's passing. On one of his dog mushing trips in the winter of 98-99, he was staying with my ex-husband, Bill Larson, and I at our house in Anchorage and was holding our youngest daughter, Hillary, in the palm of one of his hands. He held her up and remarked that she was "just a little hill of beans".

She became Hillabeans that day, and I still call her that, and many variations - Beans, Beanie, Beanareano, Beanbag - always with a thought of love and glimpse of Dan's smiling face in my mind.

He was one of the nicest men I've known; my deepest sympathies to you and yours.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I feel fortunate to have met Dan and Jan through the mushing community, both in NH and AK. I always thought of him as one of the good ol' boys of sprint mushing. May you find your peace

Janet, Monique, & Wendy,
I was so saddened to hear of Danny's passing! We haven't been in touch since Bruce and I got divorced but I always loved him. He was a GOOD man! I have so much to thank him for. Through him I met Bruce. Without that introduction I would never have had Becky - my little firecracker!Monique & Wendy, I can remember when each of you were born and saw how your Dad was with you girls - very loving. I can just imagine how he was with grandchildren! I attached a photo of me and Becky just so you can put the faces with the names.

My very sincere sympathies,
Aunt Nancy (Creek) Daigle

Janet and Family: I am so sorry that Dan has passed. I am glad that we re-connected on FB to get caught up on some of the past 50+ years. Since 8/24 I have pondered on the old Townsend, Pepperell, and NMRHS days. Friends of old reflect in my mind. Those gone and those still with us. I hate to read obituaries yet they tell the story of a life enjoyed and well lived. And that brings a smile. RIP and God Speed, Dan. Once again, sincere condolences. Curt

Dan was my good friend. We worked and hunted together for many years. If there is any comfort I can give to his wife Jan and his family, it is the fact that he loved them very much. He was very proud of his grandchildren. He just beamed when he would start talking about them. I will miss my friend.
