Derek Wilson Obituary
He graduated from North Pole High School in 2007. When Derek was a freshman and his older brother was a senior, they both played baseball on the same team at North Pole High School. He loved playing sports in high school such as baseball, football and basketball. Baseball was his passion. After high school, he attended three years and graduated from Scottsdale Community College where he played baseball and earned an associates degree, and also attended Arizona State University. During the college breaks, he played for the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks in 2009 and the 50th anniversary season of 2010.
Derek enjoyed coaching and watching baseball with his family. One of his favorite pastimes was watching football with his brother, Lance, and dad. He enjoyed and loved being outdoors, especially fishing. Growing up, he also liked snowmachining with family and friends at Summit Lake and Cantwell.
Derek recently was accepted into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) as a telephone lineman apprentice.
He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Donna Wilson; his brother, Lance (Kelsey) Wilson, and their two children, Allison and Alex; grandparents, Gary and Patricia Geist, of Mesa, Arizona, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Roberta Wilson; step-grandfather, Richard Wilson, and grandfather, Gerald Rohrer.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral located on 1300 Peger Road. Following the service there will be a wake downstairs.

Donna, Jerry, and family, I am very saddened to read about Derek's death and your loss. I remember back to his birth, then hearing about him and talking with you at work. It was very clear how much you loved him. That was an inspiration to me when my first daughter was born and I began to learn to be a parent myself. I wish I had better words to convey how I feel.
