Edward Andrews Obituary

Edward (Andy) Bond Andrews was born in Ruston, Louisiana, Aug. 17, 1935. He was known as Dent to his family and childhood friends; he was known as Andy to his Air Force family and to friends he met later in life.

He was a graduate of Ruston High School and his time there was always a source of pride. The many activities he participated in included student council president, Future Farmers of America president, Parliamentary Law Team, and public speaking. He was especially pleased that he was selected to attend one national and four state FFA conventions. He attended Louisiana State University only a short time but became a lifelong fan of their sports programs.

After high school, he worked a number of jobs including pipeline work and housing construction. He joined the Air Force in 1956 and was fortunate enough to serve in seven states and five countries during his 20-year enlistment. As an electronic warfare technician, he worked on the B-52 Stratofortress and the B-58 Hustler. At Eielson Air Force Base, he was assigned to the Intelligence Division of the 6th Strategic Wing. While serving in the Air Force, he attained an associate degree from Arkansas Polytechnic College in Russellville, Arkansas. His second career as an industrial electronic controls leader spanned 25 years at the Eielson Central Heat and Power Plant.

In 1956, Edward married the love of his life, Jerry Von Fletcher, and they enjoyed life together for almost 67 years. His love for his family was unconditional, and they loved him so much they considered him perfect for the entire family.

He had many hobbies and enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, and social activities. Patient, kind, laid back, and generous, he was always willing to lend a helping hand, and he touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He only saw the good in others, and no one can recall him losing his temper. After a long struggle and a valiant fight, Andy was called to heaven on July 31, 2023. On Aug. 6, 2023, he received full military honors and was recognized by his many friends for a life well-lived. Andy, you will live forever in our hearts.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Berry Franklin Andrews and Dessie Mae Andrews, and his brother, Berry Franklin Andrews Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jerry; his daughter, Pamela Carol Jones (Phillip Jay Jones); his grandchildren, Jason Phillip Jones and Kasey Nicole Jones (Michael Dunn Bottomly); great-grandchildren, Jack Nolan Jones, Rosemary Tamsen Jones, Malachi James Bottomly and Leeland Asher Bottomly; sisters, Geneva Stuckey (Maurice Shelton Stuckey) and Joyce Marie Maxwell; brother, Bobby Lane Andrews (Larry Welcher); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
