Henry Flitt Obituary
Feb. 13, 1944 - April 24, 2025
On the morning of his late daughter, Jennifer Claudine Flitt's birthday, at 8:32 a.m., our beloved Henry Healy Flitt, 81 years young, went to be with the Lord. He was surrounded by his family.
Henry was born in Fort Yukon, Alaska, to Solomon and Martha Flitt. At a very young age, he was raised in a traditional lifestyle environment and living the subsistence way of life. He was raised by Solomon and Martha Flitt at six mile fish camp along the Yukon river. At the time of his youth and young adult years, he enjoyed having a dog team to check his trap lines and snares. He would travel and depend on his dog team. During the short summer months, he would help his parents maintain the fish wheel and help with gathering foods for the long winter months. His mother would sew his clothing out of what was caught on the trapline.
Henry had an interest in furthering his educational goals in the trades, including carpentry in the Lower 48, mainly in Chicago and California.
He met and married his love Emma, and had their first born in California.
After a few years living there, he travelled back home to Alaska on the Alcan Highway with his brother Norman in a small car and trailer with no major problems. Henry lived an adventurous life.
In the mid 70's, he began his career with the Yukon Flats School District as a mechanical technician at the original Fort Yukon High School in Fort Yukon, Alaska.
Throughout the many years, he acquired other job titles as they became available in the Fort Yukon School District. Lastly, he was a bus driver to many K-12 grade students. He was employed for 41 years, when he was retired he missed the job that he never grew tired of. He had seen many generations growing up throughout the years, all of those who knew him very well.
He picked up his guitar and started to go to church and sing gospel music and grew closer to God.
Henry raised three generations of his family - started out with his children and the grandchildren. He had tremendous love for them all.
Henry was a humble and simple man, he didn't need too much. He fought his cancer for many years but that didn't get in the way of his daily habits of walking and playing his instrument. He really liked to call into the radio station and make music requests. He had a simple answer to your question that would make you laugh.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (William); their girls, Jacob (Billie); his brothers, William Flitt (Nancy); their son, Norman Flitt. He is also survived by his numerous families in the outlying villages in the Yukon Flats region and across the state of Alaska and Canada.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Emma Weyapuk; beautiful daughter, Jennifer; brothers, Peter Benjamin, Randall Baalam, James Nathaniel; his sisters, Sally Henry, Rowena Foster and Caroline Flitt.
There's numerous family members all too many to name across the state of Alaska and Canada.
There will be a visitation at noon on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the St. Matthew's Episcopal church in Fort Yukon, Alaska. The services will begin at 1 p.m. following and will be laid to rest at the Hudson Stuck Cemetary.
The Flitt family would like to say thank you to all that donated, said prayers and sent condolences. We greatly appreciate all who supported and were there for us. We feel the love.
