Jerry Perisho Obituary

Jerry Allen Perisho, 87, passed away on Sept. 12, 2024, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Born on March 27, 1937, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, Jerry led a distinguished life marked by a dedication to his profession and a love for the great outdoors.
Jerry's educational journey began at Bloomington Elementary in Kansas, progressing through Douglass High School, and culminating with higher education degrees from Butler County Community College in 1957, Bethel College in 1960, and the University of Kansas Medical School, AOA in 1967. His academic foundation paved the way for a notable career in the medical field.
Serving in the US Navy, Jerry completed an anesthesia residency and a fellowship in research and critical care. He was an instructor and chief of respiratory care in San Diego, California. Jerry became board certified in April 1973 and resigned his Navy commission as a LCDR the same year. His medical career continued in Bakersfield, California, where he specialized in cardiovascular and heart surgeries for seven years, followed by nine years in San Luis Obispo focusing on general anesthesiology. In 1989, he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he worked as a general anesthesiologist until his retirement in 2008. Jerry always enjoyed the variety of patients he could meet and serve in this setting.
Jerry's passion for the outdoors was evident from his childhood, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping on his family farm. This love persisted throughout his life, manifesting in hobbies such as bicycling, camping, motorcycle riding, and exploring Alaska with his wife Lin on their ATVs. Jerry was also an avid traveler, with frequent trips to Mexico, Hawaii and in their motorhome to Canada and the lower 48. Family and friends from near and far were always important to Jerry and Lin as they welcomed them into their gracious home.
Jerry is survived by his loving spouse, Lin YU Perisho; children, Mark, (Vicki) Perisho of Olathe, Kansas, Kari Perisho of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Shaney (Jerry) King of Yukon, Oklahoma, Bonnie (Bill) Ottaviani of State College, Pennsylvania, and Laura (Jay Mitchell) of Sunland, California; 12 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; brother, Bret L (Rebecca) Perisho of The Villages, Florida; sister, Nancy Jo Perisho (Robert) Mills of Prairie Village, Kansas; and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, J Allen Perisho; mother, Gida E. Stone Perisho; and brother, Jack Kim Perisho.
Jerry's life was one of service, both in his professional and personal capacities, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Per Jerry's wishes no services will be held.

Jerry bought my dream home in Atascadero California. He insisted he had drawn a home identical to mine. Then his peacock showed up on my property. HE always said, eat an herb from your land, something that you grew in the garden and you will live a long healthy life! I loved his sweetness along with kindness, mixed up with a great sense of humor! We shall meet again on the streets during the Millenium! Come quickly Lord Jesus!
