Klinton Chace Obituary

Klinton Lee Chace, beloved son, brother and uncle, went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 25, 2016, at age 47 in Fairbanks. He was born to Bill and Joyce Chace on Dec. 20, 1968, in Chico, California. In 1977, the Chace family relocated to Eielson Air Force Base and eventually moved to the North Pole area where Klint grew up. He attended schools at North Pole Elementary and High School then graduated from University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1993 with a bachelor of arts in geography with a minor in art.
Klint's interests included rock climbing, skiing, hiking, back packing, biking, space sciences and all things NASA. He was accepted at the NASA Academy, as part of his undergraduate studies as an intensive program of higher learning for college students interested in pursuing careers in space-related fields. After a film internship with the California Attorney Generals Office, he assisted with the production of a film for the State Railroad Museum, then pursued his passion in film production.
Klint found great joy in family outings and vacations. Some of his favorite adventures were backpacking through Europe, hiking into and exploring the Kennicott Mine (before the mine became a historical monument) and hiking the Chilkoot Trail.
He took part in several long distance biking trips to Anchorage and Tok and visited many historical sites in the United States. He enjoyed participating with antique car clubs (Northern Lights and Vernon Nash) and restoring his own 1951 Buick Special as well as his families historic Alaskan Model T. He was an avid fan of his nephews Adrian (11) and Bode (7) for soccer, hockey and BMX racing.
Klint was a hard worker and took pride in the quality of his work. He had a deep compassion for people that were hurting and felt honored to lend a helping hand however possible. He loved and appreciated the beauty and splendor of nature and was especially fond of rainy days, even enjoying those days with a walk. Outside of work, he spent time volunteering for the Tanana Valley Railroad, the Ice Park, Theatre UAF and the Noel Wien Library.
Thank you to all of the family and friends who have reached out to our family during this time. Your support, love, prayers and encouragement have been incredible and have helped propel us through this difficult time.
Klint was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Evelyn Chace, of Long Beach, California; Richard and Charlotte Ehlers, of Sacramento, California. Survivors include parents Bill and Joyce Chace; sister Valerie (Chace) Leonelli; brother-in-law Charlie Leonelli, nephews Adrian and Bode Leonelli; other relatives include the Mike and Mary Harper Family and the Gene and Marilyn Ehlers Family.
Christian memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. April 9 at Door of Hope Church, 270 Fairhill Road, Fairbanks, AK 99712. Reception will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autism Society of Alaska to support our families interest in raising awareness (www.asagoldenheart.org) or to Far North BMX ([email protected]) where Klint frequently enjoyed supporting his nephews. Arrangements are entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Legacy Funeral Homes.

My deepest condolences to you, family, and friends! This is how I remember him! Klint was always quick to tell a story and share his knowledge. He was always willing to lend a hand and do whatever he could to help. He loved the Buick and always looked forward to going for a ride even if it was just to go get ice cream or pizza. I hope you can take comfort in remembering the good times and knowing that God has him on a mission. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Bill & Joyce -
Jill and I extend our condolences on your loss of Klint. We have always enjoyed spending time with the three of you through our association with the car club, and found Klint an interesting and very enjoyable person to talk with and share interests. Your loss has to be great, and it is hard to find the right words which might be of help, but our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

To: Bill & Joyce:
I want to express my heart felt thoughts and prayers for the loss of your son, while I didn't know Klint, I had seen him around and he always seemed pleasant. Since I lost a son at about the same age I can understand some of your feelings.

To Klint's family, I am sorry for your loss. Klint left us much too soon. I am glad I knew him and counted him among my friends. My fondest memory is working with him to clean up the old McCarthy cemetery during the summer of 2012! He will be missed by many! May you find comfort in knowing he is at peace in heaven and that he spent Easter with Jesus.

Klint always had a smile for you in high school. In his own way he would make you laugh on your toughest days. You asked me once Klint if I believed in Jesus Christ and asked him into my heart. I thought on that for months until I finally asked him into my heart. I kept hearing your words go through my mind. I am so sorry to that you have gone so early in life but I look forward to seeing you again someday in Heaven. My deepest prayers for your family in these tough times. You raised a fine man and he touched many lives.

Klint and I were classmates in the geography program at UAF together. He was a good friend to me when I needed one. But we lost contact when we both moved away from the Fairbanks area. I thought about him just the other day and thought "I should try and find him and see what he is up to." He had a brilliant mind that few people could really see or grasp; I have many fond memories of concocting various schemes and ideas with him. He had the same idea as Google Eartha 3-D internet globe on your computer you could put any kind of data on, but six years before Google ever did! We canoed down Chena Slough and never could figure out that confounded game Myst. Argh! I'm very sad now. I'm so sorry.
