Lonny Lamb Obituary

Lonny M. Lamb, 67, passed away at his home in Poultney, Vt., Dec. 30, 2011, after a long battle with liver disease and cancer. Lonny was born
July 13, 1944, in Washoe, Mont., to Claude T. and Marie Lamb. He lived most of his life in Alaska.
In 1947 he moved to Suntrana with his family. He attended first- through eighth-grade in Suntrana. He attended Sheldon Jackson boarding school for high school, in Sitka, where he made friends around the state. He graduated from Sheldon Jackson in 1962.
He went to work for Foodland in Fairbanks for a short time, then went to work for the University of Alaska as a custodian.
When he retired 33 years later he was the superintendent of custodial services for UAF.
Lonny was an active resident in Fairbanks with the Breadline Soup Kitchen and Clothes Line Thrift Shop, donating his time to help those in need.
In summer, Lonny enjoyed taking his motorhome and camping where he could let his dogs run. He also enjoyed antiques, and that is how he ended up in Vermont after his retirement. He went to Vermont on a visit and just loved this old farmhouse and property that was up for sale, and so he bought it and moved there. He enjoyed fixing it up and collecting antiques.
He loved old cars and at one time had quite a collection in Fairbanks.
He loved his dogs and owned quite a few through the years. Most of his dogs came from the animal shelter. He also enjoyed working in his greenhouse growing tomatoes and cucumbers.
In Poultney, Vt., he enjoyed relaxing on his deck looking at his flowers and watching the wild turkeys and deer. He loved to cook and enjoyed the company of friends and family. He liked bald eagles and had quite a collection of small eagle statues. That is why he called his home in Vermont, "Alaska Eagle Farmstead."
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude T. Lamb; grandparents, John and Ella Lamb of West Virginia and LaVera (See) Cate of Montana, Walter and Martha Westbrook of Oregon.
He is survived by his life partner, Rod Fielder; mother, Marie Lamb; siblings, Lloyd T. and Kenneth C. Lamb, Connie L. Lamb and Parlee Thompson; nephews and their wives, David and Barbara, Ward and Colleen, and Stuart Rosadiuk, Lynn and Jenya, Larry and Carol, Lyle and Teresa, Lance and Shawna, and Jesse Lamb; great-nephews, Pierce Rosadiuk, Lynton, and Lucas, Levi, Landon, Logan, Cameron and Karson Lamb; great-nieces, Valerie (Rosadiuk) Swansiger, Felina (Rosadiuk) Kelly, her husband, John Kelly; and Melissa Rosadiuk, and Lacy, Summer and Rachel Lamb; great-great-nephews, Christian Swansiger, Kaidon Rosadiuk, and Braxton Kelly; great-great-niece Hailey Swansiger; and many uncles, aunts and cousins in the
Lower 48.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the following organizations in the memory of Lonny: Cancer Research, Fairbanks Breadline Soup Kitchen, Fairbanks Community Food Bank, Fairbanks animal control and shelter, Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum or the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 1029 1st Ave., Fairbanks, Alaska, 456-5235. A potluck reception will be held after the memorial service in the Parish Hall.
For further information, email [email protected].
A celebration of life will take place in July at his sister's home. His ashes will be scattered in Suntrana, and a headstone will be placed in the Healy Cemetery in Healy.

We could always count on leaving with a smile on our faces. One time he printed a whole stack of jokes, other times he would just say...did I tell you about...? He was witty, humorous and a GREAT neighbor. We will miss Lonny. RIP.
