Marc Zadra Obituary

Marc Joseph Zadra died at home on March 18, 2022, surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with cancer.
Marc was a lifelong Alaskan, born at St. Joseph's hospital in Fairbanks on July 12, 1962. Marc grew up in Moose Creek and attended school on Eielson Air Force Base. He ran cross-country and track, was a Nordic skier, and played basketball. Marc left Alaska briefly to attend the University of Oregon at Eugene (Go Ducks!), returning to live in Fairbanks. He worked at Gene's Chrysler for more than 20 years.
Marc's passion was family, friends and fun! He enjoyed camping and fishing at Clearwater, watching college basketball (especially March Madness), and Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" album. Marc loved supporting his sons Michael and Jensen, watching them play football and soccer, and attending orchestra concerts. The walls of his home are covered with pictures of family.
Marc will be remembered by family and friends for his endless generosity, patience and kindness. Marc was also a fighter and remained optimistic throughout his struggle with cancer. In addition to family, Marc had a fiercely loyal group of friends from Ben Eielson High School who supported him throughout his journey with cancer. Marc developed great relationships with his nurses and caregivers, always being ready with a joke and a smile. The family is so grateful for the support and care Marc received from Fairbanks Cancer Center, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Hospice of the Tanana Valley.
Marc is survived by sons Michael of Dayton, Nevada, and Jensen of Fairbanks; his former wife, Kelly Port; his mother, Carol Zadra; and siblings, August Zadra (wife Michelle), Steven Zadra (wife Tracy) and Gina Zadra Walton (husband David). Marc was preceded in death by his father, August Joseph Zadra. Marc leaves behind nieces, nephews, and numerous relatives throughout the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. A celebration of Marc's life will be held in August in Fairbanks.

I'm sorry, I had not heard about Marc's passing until very recently. Marc and I were childhood friends on Eielson until my father retired from the Air Force in 1975.

I have never minded sharing with others that I am profoundly autistic, but unaware of it until many years afterward. I used to tease him by persistently calling him "Zebra." I never knew how he really felt about that because he never showed any impatience or anger.

Marc was a good kid, and I'm sure he must have been a good man as well. As a kid he just seemed to be persistently happy, all the time, never seeming to let any troubles bother him. Marc was always upbeat, always joking, always getting people to laugh, including me. He was a good, patient friend, and I will always miss him.

Rest well, my friend. You earned it far too early.

Deepest sorrows for your loss. The world is a colder place without his kind words and warm smile that he always shared.

Marc was a great guy, he had an awesome sense of humor and was always up. i worked with him Ft Fort Wainright Four seasons, He worked hard but was always a happy guy. I had recently sent him pictures from that time. He was a great guy even though I had not talked with him from the late 80´s until 2020 I found he was the same caring, fun guy who made me laugh through tense times. I immediately learned how much he loved his family especially his sons. I am so sorry this good man has left his earthly home. Prayers for all the family. In sincere sympathy Pauline Lasister

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your loved one. While words cannot completely erase the sorrow felt, I hope you find comfort in knowing that under God's Kingdom on earth, aging and death will no longer happen, as imperfection and bad conditions will be things of the past. (Isaiah 65:17-25.)

Marc was a joy to be around and I always will remember being in the back office and hearing laughs and giggles coming from the front cashier desk when Marc was up there. No matter how hard his struggle was with this cancer you would of never known by his attitude and life. Big hug out to his family. May you rest in peace Marc with no more pain.

I got to know Marc the last 15 years and always had a great story or joke to tell while I was cutting his hair. His boys were the light of his life and he was so proud of them. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he walk with God.
