Myrne McGhie Obituary

Myrna Lee McGhie, born on July 20, 1940, in Brooks, Alberta, Canada, passed away on Feb. 22, 2025, in Fairbanks, Alaska.
In 1948, Myrna's family moved to Seattle, Washington, where she grew up in Lake City, Washington. She attended Shoreline High School, where she met Bruce Leigh McGhie, they married in 1958. Together they raised four children - Bruce Michael, Rob Roy (Kerry), Scott Marshall (Joanne), and Traci Renae (Kevin) - before moving to Fairbanks in 1968 to begin a new chapter in Alaska.
Myrna was a woman of deep faith and a devoted mother. She worked in various roles throughout her career, including at the Diet Center, and the Pioneer Home as an activities director. She later served as an assistant to State Representative Jeannette James, traveling to Juneau during legislative sessions until her retirement in 2002.
A passionate singer, Myrna was an active member of the Northernmost Chapter of the Sweet Adeline's. She performed in several barbershop quartets - including Arctic Association, The Ice Breakers, Spontaneous Agreement, Alaska Gold, and The Velvets - competing nationally and placing among the top five internationally multiple times. Her love for music extended to community performances at local events, closing out an AM radio station with the Star-Spangled Banner for many years, and singing up and down the trans-Alaska pipeline.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Archie Levi Doble and Alice Bernice Olsen Doble. She is survived by her children grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Verice Levi Doble (Jackie) and family.
Everyone she touched knew she was a child of God. She was positive in all areas of life, even the tough times. Her first born said, "She Fought the Good Fight, she straightened me out." He sends his Love!
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on June 7, 2025, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, followed by a celebration of life at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support first responders in your local area.

She was a beautiful classy woman. My dad's best friend was Bruce and they often visited. Precious memories.
