Shane Edwin Obituary

Shane George Edwin, born Nov. 5, 1971, in Tanana, went on his final journey on June 12, 2018, in Galena. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
When Shane was born, his family lived in Koyukuk for three to four years. The family moved to Anchorage then back to Galena, where his stepfather, Doug McCoy, joined the family.
Shane lived in Anchorage for many years where he met Karen Thomas and started their family. After Karen's passing, he moved back to Galena and met the love of his life, Edie Sommer.
One thing you could say about Shane is that he was a good man, he helped everyone, and he had a loving heart. In Galena, he was the man to visit, as he was a talented storyteller. A visit wasn't complete until you laughed out loud and left with a big bear hug. People in Galena said that Shane often called or checked on them to see if they needed help with anything. He was sensitive and kind-hearted. All of his friends knew that Shane, big as he was, had his fears about traveling alone or watching scary movies, saying emphatically "Edzegee!" Shane's passion was taking care of Edie. We will keep her in our prayers.
Shane George Edwin, husband to Edie Sommer; son of Flora McCoy; grandson to late Andrew and Jessie Edwin; older brother to Christine Edwin and Julie (Bobby) Lombardi; father to Shannon and Victoria Lewis; and Ryan Edwin; step-father to Tash Draper; grandfather to Kensley, Charlotte and Andrea. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews, and the Sommer, Edwin, Jones and Malemute families. Shane was laid to rest, June 14, 2018, in Koyukuk.
