A. Grady Obituary
A. Phil Grady, 59, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, surrounded by his family at home in Creedmoor after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Phil was born May 11, 1945, in Johnston County to devout Christian parents, the late A.C. and Myrtle Phillips Grady. He graduated from Micro High School, attended Campbell University, and graduated from N.C. State University with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agriculture Education. Phil was a creative person, interested in art, music, storytelling, woodworking, collecting Indian artifacts, and planning backpacking trips to the mountains.
Phil was happily married to Joy Phillips Grady for over 37 years. Throughout their marriage, they were a team working at South Granville High School in Creedmoor where Phil spent his entire 32-year teaching career as a caring teacher and supportive coworker. During his teaching career, he received the Young Educator's Award, given by the Creedmoor Jaycees in 1969, and received the Outstanding Citizenship Award in 1996 given by the Creedmoor Chamber of Commerce.
Phil was an active member of First Baptist Church Creedmoor where he was a Sunday School teacher, deacon and choir member. He always humbly portrayed Jesus, his Lord and Savior, in life and in the church's passion play, "By the Way of the Cross," and lived his life straight from the Bible.
Phil's main mission in life was to promote positive thinking and the love of God and nature, while setting a fine Christian example for others to follow. On may occasions Phil and Joy opened their home to those who needed a temporary place to live.
Other than his wife, Joy, Phil is survived by his son, Alan Grady and his wife, Amy, of Garner; his daughter, Wendy Braddy and her husband, Linny of Wake Forest; three grandchildren, Morgan and Drew Braddy and Joshua Grady; his sister, Jackie Evans and her husband, Joe, of Four Oaks; and stepmother, Martha Grady of Selma.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church Creedmoor, Main Street with Dr. Tom Jenkins and Rev. Eddie Mauldin officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Creedmoor, P.O. Box 38, Creedmoor, NC 27522.
