Alan Lee Obituary

Alan Lee
September 17, 1952 - August 14, 2022
Sarasota, Florida - Alan Lee died suddenly at home in Sarasota, Florida on August 14. He was 69. Born in Rochester, New York, raised in Westfield, New Jersey, he graduated from the University of Maryland with honors in finance and accounting. He had a meaningful career as a CPA in private practice in Washington, DC specializing in nonprofit accounting. He relocated to Chapel Hill in 2008 and served on the board of the Community Home Trust before relocating to Sarasota. Alan loved to travel â€" the coasts of Maine and Sweden were two of his favorite places to visit. He enjoyed fine dining, cooking, and selecting wines for perfect pairings. Alan would strike up a conversation with anybody he met and he had a soft "spot" for Dalmatians. Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Christina Cornell, his nephew, Andy, nieces, Kerstin and Sara, and their families. There will be a private celebration of his life on September 3 in Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, consider donating in Alan's name to the United Nations Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (https://crisisrelief.un.org/t/ukraine).

We are so very sorry to learn of Alan´s passing. Several years ago, as the frequency and length of our visits to Sarasota were increasing, I sought out tennis players to help me fulfill my tennis passion while there. Alan was one of the first persons that welcomed me into his tennis and social world. We quickly became great tennis friends, and it didn´t take long to be great friends without qualification. Alan was kind and thoughtful and would talk to anyone. His friendliness always impressed me. He was concerned about others and would go out of his way to help out his friends. He bought me a book to help me improve at doubles tennis and he was always full of tips for tennis improvements, while also seeking tips to improve his game. He was passionate about tennis, always looking to improve his game and his tennis buddies´ games. We were both on the same winning Suncoast Men´s Tennis Team. When I had my hip replacement surgery in June, he asked my wife to text him so that he could keep up with my recovery. He was a definite "foodie" and not only made great suggestions for Sarasota restaurants but he was a serious cook who would make complicated meals. I remember him sending me detailed instructions and pictures as to how to cook rabbit. Alan loved to discuss worldly issues and we had many deep conversations about current events. He loved his wife and was very proud of her accomplishments. The world has lost a great person. He will be missed. RIP Alan.
