Alice Caruolo Obituary

Alice Elinor Caruolo

Raleigh

On the morning of February 18, 2016, Alice passed away at a facility for Alzheimers care since August 2015. Alice was 83 years old. She was born in Providence, RI on July 24, 1932. She was first child of Alice Higgins and Stanley Orlando Villanis. Her only sibling Stanley Orlando was born in 1935. She married her husband Edward Vitangelo Caruolo in 1953. The young couple had four sons: Douglas (1954) in RI. Gary (1956), Edward (1958), Paul (1961) all in MN while Ed pursued his Doctorate. The couple moved to Cary, NC. It is here they put down roots. After building a home in subdivision (Kingsbrooke) of Medfield Estates, she became active in garden club and her yard was an inspiration to all. Japanese Maples and mature Azaleas in backyard still pay tribute to her landscaping skills. With four growing boys to feed she became an excellent cook. Her passion was baking being recognized for making the most incredible breads, Italian cookies, pepper biscuits, cream puffs and cheese cakes and could always be counted on to contribute at family gatherings. Alice was also a "fashionista". Her good taste and engaging personality served her well working 25 years for Belk. At Crabtree in women's apparel, she was sought out by coworkers and customers. Alice always put others first. Her wit and ability to tell a good joke was unparalleled. She loved dogs evidenced by number she welcomed into her family treating her "four-legged family" to gourmet cooking. She gave generously to American Heart Association and ASPCA. She is preceded in death by her parents Stanley Orlando Villanis and Alice Higgins Villanis, her in-laws Antonio Caruolo, Emma Baldoni Caruolo and brother-in-law Robert Caruolo. Alice is survived by husband Edward V Caruolo (who refers to her as "my Alice"), her sons Douglas (and Andrea) of Apex, Gary Caruolo of Dunedin, FL, Edward (and Kathy) of Haw River, Paul (and Wendy) of Cary; six grandchildren, Kristi, Cara, Eric, Kyle, Greg, and Victoria; her brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Norma Villanis of Wakefield, RI; sister-in-law, Anna Caruolo of West Kingston, RI; nieces, Cathy Morgan, Jackie Duke, Christine Villanis, Lisa Lockwood; nephews; Brad Villanis and Keith Caruolo. The family thanks friends for support and kindness during Alice's struggle with Alzheimer's. Alice wished to have her ashes scattered in ocean in NewPort, RI at Inn-at-Castle Hill, a location she loved to visit. She wished to celebrate her life at that gathering of close, immediate family.
