Alton Skinner Obituary

Alton Skinner III

August 27, 1938 - September 28, 2018

Raleigh

Alton "Bud" Skinner III, passed away Friday September 28th from cancer. He was fortunate to far out-live the initial diagnosis over 15 years ago, and LIVE he did! Bud is survived by former spouse, Helen "Topsy" Skinner, brother Robert N. Skinner and wife Linda of Bahama, NC, son James Stanton "Stan" Skinner of Raleigh, NC, daughter Laura-Leigh Rowlette and husband Steve, and 17 year old twin granddaughters, Savannah and Sydney all of Wake Forest, NC, and sister-in-law Partricia Skinner of Durham, NC. He was preceded in death by parents Alton and Alta Vickers Skinner and brother Phillip S. Skinner all of Durham, NC.

Bud was a native of Durham and graduated from Durham High School in 1956. He studied and obtained several degrees at Duke, Elon, and NCSU. He worked in Federal and mostly NC State government jobs until he retired from the Administrative Office of the Courts. His loves were traveling out West to National parks with his brothers, riding bikes, visiting the mountains of NC, and raising his kids while actively coaching soccer, attending horse shows, and High School marching band competitions. His recent years were spent as the worlds greatest Granddaddy ("G-Daddy"), taking his granddaughters on many grand trips to Disney and adventures to the NC Mountains. Anyone who had the chance to meet and talk with Bud got to experience his positive energy and modest brilliance. He was one of a kind in reason, logic, and common sense and his wisdom, friendship, and humor will be missed by all.

A 'Remembrance' will be held at the home of Laura-Leigh Rowlette the afternoon of Sunday, Nov 4th. Please email [email protected] for more info.

I have to agree with you, Bill Turner. Alton was also my best friend and always the "go to" person when I needed a kind word of encouragement or just a chat. I think about him every day and wish he were still with us. I miss that little chuckle he had and his spin on things. He is missed by so many people.

Al was one of the kindest gentlest and SMARTEST human being I have ever had the privilege to know. Rest in eternal peace my friend.

Al was truly one of a kind. We were roommates at Elon for the first year but remained friends thru out our Elon years. He was the first person I ever met who had a photographic memorya true geniusbut with an ability to communicate with those not so gifted. While I have not seen Al for years he will forever remain in my heart as s great friend. Rest in piece my friend. See you on the other side.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.
