Ann Hart Obituary

Mrs. Ann Clegg Hart, 96, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, March 15, 2009, at Bayview Nursing Center in New Bern. A native of Scotland County, she was born in the small town of Laurel Hill on January 6, 1913, the daughter of Isaac Newton Clegg and Annie McIntosh Clegg. Following graduation from Queens College, Mrs. Hart began a teaching career that led her to meeting her husband, George William Hart, Jr., and upon marriage she moved to Snow Hill. Mrs. Hart did return to teaching for a brief period at Greene Central High School where she taught English and French. She was a member of Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill where she attended until declining health forced her to leave her home and into a more assisted living environment in New Bern.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Weaver officiating.
Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her husband, George William Hart, Jr. in 1971; and a grandson, George Wayne Rouse in 2003.
Her surviving family includes her daughters, Peggy Hart Rouse of New Bern and Celeste Hart duMont of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Stephen K. Rouse of New Bern, David duMont of Enloa, PA and Ann duMont Mahurin of Richmond, VA; and great-grandchildren, Stephanie Rouse of New Bern, and Joshua Mahurin and Dillon Mahurin, both of Richmond, VA.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary Memorial UMC, P.O. Box 445, Snow Hill, NC 28580.

Mrs. Hart was a fine lady and will always be remembered as a person with great character by me. I knew her as a teacher and later in life as a friend. She was one of a kind and will surely be missed.
