Arthur Davis Obituary

Arthur Emerson Davis, III

April 3, 1955 - January 17, 2025

Brooklyn, New York - Arthur E. Davis, III passed away unexpectedly from a stroke on Jan. 17, 2025 in Brooklyn, NY. He was 69. Art was the second child of six born to the late Carrol and Dr. Arthur E. Davis, Jr. Art grew up in North Carolina where he attended Broughton High School in Raleigh, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and obtained his law degree from Wake Forest University.

Art used his skills as an attorney, CPA and consultant in various positions over the years. After beginning his career at an international accounting firm, he spent five years working for the U.S. Treasury Department. He then started his own practice and also became the legal consultant and spokesperson for the American Escrow Association, a position he held for over thirty years. Over his career, he spoke before Congress numerous times, as well as to entities such as the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Department of the Treasury and the Federal Trade Commission.

Art's true love was his family. He and his beloved wife Christy recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He took great delight in their three children, Emerson (husband Paul), Anders (wife Caitlin) and Eliza (fiancé Matt). He was a constant presence at swim meets, tennis matches and other endeavors during their youth. As they grew older, Art relished family gatherings, at times appreciating a fine cigar during the festivities.

In addition to his immediate family, Art is survived by his five siblings, Karla, Joe, Debbie, Pam and Tom and a host of nieces and nephews.

We are saddened that Art's life was cut short, but his spirit and love for his family will live on forever. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.

Art has been on my mind a lot lately. We were in constant contact on my tax and estate stuff, but it was always more like talking to an understanding and nonjudgmental friend than talking to my attorney. I miss him so much. I can only imagine how much Christie and the kids miss him. He was always talking about how proud he was of his family. I´m sure he´ll find a way to let you all know that he´s still close by. . Much love Maurita Coley Flippin (and Paul)
