Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Barbara "Bobby" Gaddy Judd died March 6, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband Burke Judd and her sister Juliana Yost. She is survived by her sons Sean (Norene), Evan (Mika) and Timothy (Shana), 5 grandchildren (Alex, Ian, Caroline, Christopher and Annabel) and many nieces and nephews.
Bobby was born to Millard and Juliana Gaddy in New York City on September 5, 1929, the second of 2 daughters. After graduating high school, she earned her Bachelor's degree from Barnard in 1950. Seeking employment and adventure, she followed her sister Julie to California, and began working as a departmental administrator at Cal Tech. There, she met her future husband, Burke. They were married on March 21, 1953 in Pasadena, California, a marriage that lasted 54 years until Burke's death in 2007. They moved to Austin, Texas shortly after their marriage and raised their family there. Bobby did much volunteer work and was active in the Austin political scene of the 1960's and 70's. Bobby and Burke moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1979, where Bobby continued to volunteer, worked in healthcare and remained politically active. She was a consummate hostess, and made putting together an elegant gathering of 20 or more look effortless. Bobby was always attentive of her wardrobe, and always very stylish and tasteful in her attire. She was a woman of refinement and taste, always kind and loving, and the person you wanted to be with in those times life called for empathy and encouragement. Bobby will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00-4:00PM on Saturday, May 30 in the Cedars Room at the Cedars of Chapel Hill. All are welcome.
