Barbara Sisk Landon

Wilmington, North Carolina - Barbara Sisk Landon was born July 29, 1932 in Preston, MD and died February 9, 2022 in Wilmington, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Fletcher Sisk and Helen Marvel Sisk, her brother Alfred Fletcher Sisk, Jr. and her beloved husband, Dr. Henry C. (Hank) Landon III. She is survived by her daughter Helen Landon Terranova, her son Henry Clayton (Clay) Landon IV, son-in-law Gordon A. Terranova, grand-daughter Sterling Landon Terranova and daughter-in-law Sherry Kent.
Barbara graduated from Gaucher College and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta. Barbara taught at the L'Ecole Francais du St. Esprit in New York City. Barbara met her husband while travelling on the Queen Mary during a crossing to Europe. Barbara and Hank loved art and antiques and amassed an amazing collection of paintings, furniture and decorative arts that was exhibited throughout the United States and was considered to be one of the top American Art and Antiques collections in the United States. Throughout her life, Barbara was an avid collector and student of antique silver, ceramics and sculpture. Barbara was a generous philanthropist and made several meaningful contributions of her art and antiques.
Barbara loved the ocean and the beach and her home for fifty years on Figure Eight Island. Later in life, Barbara chose to reside at Plantation Village in Wilmington, NC as it was close to her beloved Figure Eight. At Plantation Village, Barbara enjoyed many friendships, especially her close girlfriends, also known as "The Board".
Barbara was a superb cook who studied with Julia Child and was a wonderful hostess who threw memorable parties. Barbara was an excellent conversationalist, was always positive and upbeat, was extremely down to earth and welcoming to everyone. Barbara was gracious, charming and elegant. People that knew Barbara would describe her as a true lady.
Barbara was involved in a number of charitable and civic organizations, including the Mint Museum of Art, the North Carolina Museum of Art, Old Wilkes Incorporated and the Decorative Arts Trust.
Barbara enjoyed an incredible life and described her life with her husband as a fairy tale. She adored her family, especially her daughter, son and granddaughter.
