Willow Spring, North Carolina - Barry Flynn Benson, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 surrounded by his family. Barry, a loving family man and avid fisherman who loved Cape Lookout, was born in Wake County on August 12, 1956 to Elsie Brinkley Benson and the late Millard Benson. He retired from the NCSU maintenance department as a painter and was also involved in painting the Governor's Mansion.
In addition to his mother, Barry is also survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly Benson; daughter, Jessica Mann and husband, Will; granddaughter, Ellie Mann; mother, Elsie Benson; sister, Gail Benson-Barefoot and husband, Johnnie; brothers, Philip Benson and wife, Robin, Ronnie Benson and wife, Dawn, Neal Benson and wife, Lisa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends beginning at 1:00pm. The committal service will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Clayton.

I remember the Bensons way back in the day. Mama, Fay Johnson (who passed away last July), worked with Elsie at Southern Bell, and I remember Millard being an umpire in his spare time. I grew up off Lake Wheeler Rd, but I went to Cary High School. I remember everyone when we were growing up. Barry was closest to my age. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this sorrowful time. It is devastating to lose a part of the chain. May God's hand wrap around all of you and bring you even closer. May you find comfort and peace.
